  • SIM COMPLETE - 1985 - Regular Season 10

    Next sim: Sunday

3-3 for Maine. Kenichi Sato enacted his revenge on me for trading him. Hit a HR in all games vs Davenport. My bullpen blew a couple games against Carolina.

    1-5.

Mark Steward and Alberto Grandon are my offense. I hate wasting their talents.

3-3. I think we're just trying to hang around until Gorrie gets back. The offense hasn't been the same without him. The SP is getting better. It looks like Gugs has finally come around.

We've got some talks going. We'll see if anything comes out of it. Our minors are getting a bit crowded.

Pedro Eires becomes the first BLB Player to hit 250 Homers. Takes Pateshall deep in a game at Los Alamos.

Back to our rightful place in the basement of the Stout. One good early month can be so deceiving. Guess it's good that I saw reality before I started overpaying at the deadline. Now I can sell.

              Indianapolis Clowns 34-30

              3-3
              1-2 @ Washington
              2-1 @ Willmington

              The Good:
              - Joe Pass enjoyed his trip to the Import League, hitting .300/.364/.550 with a homer and a couple of doubles.

              - Terry Drewitt "busted" out, hitting .227/.333/.455. When thats busting out, things can't be going well for you. He did hit a homer, had 4 BB's, and had 6 RBI.

              - Mac Avery allowed 1 run and 4 hits in 5 innings, while K'ing 6. I'm interested to see how he does as I let up on his pitch limit.

              The Bad:
              - Don Alexander hit .190 this sim. Definetly not what I expected out of him thus far. I thought May was bad, things are looking even worse thus far in June.

              Down on the Farm:
Triple-A: SP Curt Goodwin continues to light it up, allowing only 5 hits and 2 walks in 12.1 innings while striking out 14. Goodwin also picked up 2 wins for his efforts. He just turned 20, and I gotta think he'll be up soon.

Double-A: LF Gene Sykes hit for the cycle, adding 2 RBI and 3 runs.

Single-A: 3rd rounder Micah Armstrong got his pro career started by getting tossed out of his 5th game and earning a 7 game suspension. Nice job, fool.
              - Our first pick in this years draft, 2nd rounder Curt Johnston started his transformation to a starter by pitching 5 strong innings, allowing 1 hit and 3 BB's while K'ing 2 in his 82 pitch effort.
              - Another reliever from this years draft being groomed as a starter, 4th rounder Doug Gallagher, worked 6 innings in his debut. He gave up 4 hits and 2 BB's, while K'ing 3 on his way to his first professional win.

So the two pitchers I drafted in the first round that almost every scout but Riverman's hated, just pitched identical 8 inning games giving up zero runs.

                  Washington Bats
4-2 sim. 2-1 vs. Indy. 2-1 vs. Syracuse. Both losses were by one-run. Now tied for first in the Stout with Wilmington.

                  The Good
-SS Jack Dynes went 10/17 with a double and two triples. His OPS for the week was 1.514. Wow.
-SP Romano Gonzalez is quietly having a monster bounce-back season. After three seasons of a sub-3.00 ERA, he had a down year in '84 going 6-16 with a 4.04 ERA. This year he already has seven wins and a 2.70 ERA.

                  The Bad
-SP Joe Rodriguez may be 8-2, but he is having a down year. A 4.77 ERA for a guy who never had an ERA in the bigs over 3.63...not good. If he continues to falter, Washington might look for a starting pitcher.
-This team is middle of the road in terms of runs per game. Players need to pick up the slack or I might need to make a splash at the deadline.

                  The Ugly
-My record in May, 13-15. In June the Bats are 11-4.

Has anyone ever looked into this? I have noticed that a bunch of players who change teams play REALLY well against former organizations.

You are above .500! This is the best team you have ever fielded, and you are looking to sell?

Not necessarily looking to sell right now... but less apt to buy. I'm sure once Sully lands one of those Windy City pitchers I'll take that as my cue.

                    ***

Fun Fact: Frank Dallyn has given up 3 earned runs or less in 8 of his last 10 starts. 2 or less in 6 of those 8. Record over the last 10: 0-5 with 5 No Decisions. Poor Frank.

Can I start campaigning for the only two guys I think are worth all star selections this year?

Alberto Grandon- He's doing exactly what I paid 20 mil. a year for. .300/.339/.533, 11HR's/47RBI's. 33XBH. By far one of the more productive 3B in the IL.

Mark Steward- This guy has really taken off since I traded for him. .336/.418/.557, 8HR's/19RBI's. I think I'm going to move the guy into the clean up spot the following sim. Hitting sixth seems to really be zapping his RBI totals... but I'm convinced some guys hit better in certain slots than others. When Steward is hitting sixth, he just seems to crush pitching. Hopefully in his case, it has nothing to do with batting order, and all to do with overall talent.

Unfortunately for Grandon and Josh Poling... Vincent Nino is playing 3B this season instead of 1B and should be a lock for the IL start.

It was a tough decision choosing between Grandon and Sanchez. I'm still extremely happy with Sanchez, but I wonder where he would be in comparison if he wasn't collecting paychecks in the disabled list.
