  • 2032 Draft Discussion - Draft will begin Thur 5/16

The draft utility has been loaded and turned on. The draft will begin Thursday, May 16th! Teams may pick manually anytime before that.

    http://www.simgamingnetwork.com/blb/...draftBoard.php

    Pick Time Limits:
    1st Round and 2nd Round: 4 hours
    Remaining Rounds: 2 hours

The draft clock runs between 8am and 10pm ET. The utility will autopick for you if you go over your time. Managers who go over their time limit will be placed on Autopick until they return. Please make use of the preference list to avoid going over the time limit.

Let me know if you have any questions on how to use the utility.

    Preference List Usage

    - To add players to your Preference List click the check box next to their name and click the 'Add to List' button. You can then move players up and down the list or remove them using the provided buttons.

    Team War Room

The Team War Room is available only to logged in users who are currently in control of a team as defined in the league file. From here, teams can review the available players, see what picks they’ve made and when their next ones are due, manage their draft list, configure their auto draft settings, and manually draft players if it is their turn to pick.

To add players to the draft list, click the check box next to their name, then click the Add To List button. You can add multiple players at once, and they are added in the order they appear on the page, not the order clicked. Use the up/down/remove buttons next to the draft list to manage the players once they’re on the list. The view button will take you to the HTML page of the highlighted player in the draft list.

There are three options under user preferences that GM’s should address:

Auto Draft From List: Checking this option tells the draft code to go ahead and pick the top player off your draft list should the draft come around to your pick. If you leave this box unchecked the draft will not auto select from your draft list even if it is your turn to pick.

Auto Draft…: Checking this check box tells the draft code to make an auto selection of your pick. If you have this box and the auto draft from list box checked, the draft code will first check your draft list for the first available player, and then auto your pick only if there are no available players left on your draft list. If this box is checked, but the auto draft from list box is not checked, your draft list will be ignored when the draft auto picks for your team.

…After Round: If you have the auto draft option checked, and entered a draft round number in this field, then the draft will wait until that round has completed before auto picking for your team. For example, a team may wish to make manual picks in their first three draft rounds, but auto pick the remaining 7 rounds of a 10 round draft. In that case, you would click the auto draft check box, and enter 3 in the draft round field. The utility will then auto select for you in rounds 4 and higher. If this field is
left blank and the auto draft box is checked, then all rounds will be auto drafted. If this field contains a number, but the auto draft box is not checked, then no auto picks will be made even after the round specified.
The save button will save both the draft list and the user preferences. You MUST click this button to save changes to your draft list.

If it is your team’s turn to pick in the draft, the “Add To List” button will be replaced by a button used to make a draft pick. In this case, check the box next to the player you wish to draft and click the button.

Remember to click 'Save' after you make any changes to your draft preferences or player preference list.

I know I have mentioned this before but I think it is ever more important with the current in-game scout list situations. For those that aren't aware, if you go to to Transactions > Draft Pool > Draft List > Action > Asking Scouting Director for "X" round, your scout will create a list of draft eligible players. In the OOTP manual there is no mention, as far as I can tell, what this scout draft list is supposed to represent, however.

In previous versions, it seemed this was a fairly accurate interpretation of how the draft will go. I know in the years that I picked high, SP Seymour who I took 1.1 and 3B Swope also at 1.1, were ranked on my draft list at #1 and #2, respectively. I personally saw the list as my scouts "mock draft." There were very few drafts that I can remember, where a top 50 pick was selected outside of maybe 10-20 slots for their projection. As OOTP progressed to newer versions, it seemed the scouting draft list structure was changed. Still useful in OOTP18, but now in OOTP 19, it seems nearly worthless. We have all see guys that don't have good stats, your scout doesn't think is good, OSA doesn't either, but for some reason is ranked as a top 10 player.

I think a solution GMs should adopt, especially those who often relied on the in-game scout draft list, to now use the Stats Lab utility draft list. If you go to the filters and choose the first Sort By and change it to "Draft List" it will sort the players by "something" which appears to be pretty solid. I don't know what exactly it uses to determine the order, my best guess would probably be the "hidden" OSA POT for each player. I think that's why on the pitchers specific list (the utility only allows for separate pitchers and hitters), often has CL/MR near the top, while a more conventional draft list would rank the relievers lower. I have noticed some strange ratings in the utility, while majority appear to be direct OSA potentials, sometimes they are different slightly.

OSA isn't the most reliable but this list does seem much more useful than the scout list. I also think this is the "list" the CPU/AUTO pick selects from and I believe most GMs have been much more impressed by these elections in recent version. My recommendation would be to use this more as a guide to the draft. A starting point. Etc.

Pat is correct. The StatsLab list is what is generated for Auto Picks. Nothing real fancy as it’s just OSA ratings from the HTML. Ive always relied heavily though on OSA ratings so it can be useful depending on your preference.

In all honesty, outside of the first round and sometimes second round, I pretty much let StatsLab auto-draft for me in my other league and I always have a number of players that are pretty good in my system.

I'm not saying you'll find stars. And I'm sure there are guys in that league doing more work to find the real gems, but the point is, StatsLab ain't no slouch.

The auto list and mine are fairly close... So either I know what I'm doing, or... The auto list thing is garbage!
