The pitching has held up quite well and even with our best remaining hitter out for the sim, we managed to squeeze out four one-run wins in a 4-3 sim. The highlight was a two run walk-off homer by Manny Patuel with two out in the ninth against Vern Simmonds to turn a 1-0 defeat into a 2-1 win. It was Patuel's first homer of the year.
I have now had 5 walk-off homers so far this season.
THE GOOD
- Wilton Harcourt (.330 - 8HR - 20 RBI) and Nate "The Skull" Magness (5-0 - 2.13 ERA - 1.07 WHIP) take home the IL Batter and Pitcher of the Month awards for the IL. With a 21-7 month for the Colonials, these two played huge roles in the success.
- Winning a home series against a good Davenport team was crucial going into a stretch of 11 straight Stout games including 8 in a row on the road. Won two 1-run games to take the series.
- We'll take a split with Wilmington any day of the week. This Wildcat team is sick. We played three close games (winning two) with one blowout.
- Frank Hamlet lead the team in RBI for the second straight week and is quickly making a name for himself in the Colonials lineup.
THE BAD
- Cortez Barrerra, just 3 days short of his 41st birthday, got hammered in his two starts this week after winning his last 4.
- As is the case every year, my minor league system continues to be ravaged by injury. In Single A, my entire starting OF is out for multiple weeks.
- Big test in the Stout coming up this week with 2 each @ Morgantown and Washington and then another series with the division leading Wildcats. Going into that with an ice-cold Barrarra and no one to replace Oyos could spell doom for the Colonials strong start.
THE UGLY - Delmar Oyos is out for a season and a half. Once the intended ACE of the Staff, takes his second 8 month + long injury. This one takes him out till July of NEXT season. Brutal. Brutal.
- With no real legit BLB ready player to slide into the 5th starter role... virginia's run at an above .500 record may be over before it really got any steam.
5-2. I think Nevereia is going to the pen, or waivers. Wombwell is actually pitching well in a long relief role. I might try him out in the rotation again.
3-4 Sim. 1-2 vs. Baltimore. 2-2 @ Morgantown
Ugh. I drop even further in the standings. If things don't get better soon, I will probably be selling at the deadline.
The Good
-Joe Sierra is hitting like it is 1983 again! .333 average with a .954 OPS! Gotta love Sierra.
-Pete Summers not only won IL Rookie of the Month, he just won IL Player of the Week. If this guy keeps this up, he will probably win the batting title.
The Bad
-I can't get any production out of RF. Paulet and Farelo each have an OPS around .600.
-Since trading for RP Merlin Thompson, he has been complete shit. He still has good ratings. But he is ANGRY that he is not the closer. Since being in Washington, this season and last, he has given up 54 hits in 37 IP.
The Ugly
-Being last place in the standings in June! I'm pretty sure that has NEVER happen in my entire time with the organization.
Wilmington Wildcats- 2057- Seattle Pilots- 2017-2041 Washington Bats - 1979-2013
The Good:
- Curritto Laverte continues to play better than I thought he would, hitting .407/.407/.741 with 2 homers and 11 RBI. Curritto is leading the club with 33 RBI.
- Pete Miller had another great sim, hitting .407/.452/.556 while adding 4 doubles. Overall he doesn't hit for much power, but he's hitting, so I can't complain.
- Lonzo Serma made a triumphant return to the Clowns, hitting .357/.471/.714 with 1 homer and 2 doubles in only 14 AB's.
- Joe Gauina threw a complete game 5 hit shutout, striking out 7 and walking 3. Joe continues to pitch well for the Clowns. He also continues his desire to test FA this offseason. At least let me make you an offer, bitch!
The Bad:
- George Neilly is out for 2 months. Outside of a few rough outings, George has been outstanding this year for the Clowns. He was in line for a promotion to the rotation, but this derails things a bit.
- Joe Soto sucked in May. After an April that had me pondering a move to the rotation, Joe brought me back to reality in May, posting an ERA north of 9, 26 hits, and 17 BB's in 15 innings. Thanks Joe!
The Ugly:
- Mac Avery posted a tidy 20.25 ERA this sim, standing on the mound for 2.2 innings. In that extensive workload, Avery allowed 4 hits, 2 homers, 6 runs, and 2 BB's. He did K 3 however.
Down On The Farm:
- Ruben Sanchez won the Domestic League Triple-A Batter of the Month award for May. Ruben hit .376/.435/.633 with 7 homers, 38 RBI, and 20 runs in 109 AB's. Ruben had more RBI in May than my team leader has all year.
- Ollie Malloy also took home some hardware this month, picking up the Domestic League Double-A Batter of the Month award. The big lefty hit 4 homers while adding 19 RBI and 20 runs, good for a .387/.407/.575 line in 106 AB's.
I am starting to believe that guys who are angry because they aren't getting what they want will perform much worse than there ratings suggest they should instead of it just affecting their willingness to resign like it should. That is why I traded Oliver; Pardue was pitching bad and was angry for the same reason as Thompson.
The ugly part of your post is probably true. I don't imagine you were ever looking up at Virginia from your position in the standings this late in the season before.

Yeah. He is fine with his role now, but he is unhappy about his role with the team and his performance.

I'm pretty sure this has never happened.

You should have the trade committee review the trade. Since there wasn't a physical done I have a feeling it was pre-existing & Clay knew about the injury and was trying to pull a fast one!

If they're going to investigate the trade... they should start with finding out if they are actually the same player....
