Hmm, I guess I could agree I was taken if it were the other way around. I was asked if I'd be interested in taking Murcott and I said yes. There was no swindling. I wanted the player.

One deal I could and should have done better with is the Tommy Lang deal. I asked for too many picks rather than quality minor leaguers. Picks are too random. I got what I wanted, but with the randomness of talent, anything could happen.

I'm taking that as a compliment and an implication that I am devilishly charming to a fault.... but I really haven't swindled anyone.

I think the thing I do (though I learned it late) that some others don't is that I go to most people with an offer. Instead of "what do you want" or "look at my team and tell me what you like." I try to go with a deal as a jumping off point. Denver's post said they wanted to make room by moving Hamlet... could take salary... and wanted a little pop.

I sent a PM that said.... "Murcott for Hamlet?" with a little honest appraisel of what I think Murcott brings. Didn't over sell him. Very honest. Mutually beneficial deal IMO.

That being said... I still think that the J. Allen Wright Award will someday be called the "Clay T. Shaver Award"

Yea, Clay basically told me he wasn't going to hit many homeruns but said he'll steal bases.

I considered it for a few hours. Went home, thought about where I could put Murcott in my lineup, and PMed Clay back with a yes.

I wasn't getting the power I asked for, but I felt I was getting a guy that can steal bases and score runs. If Seagarra, Sanchez, Zamarida, and Tesina can't drive him home, no one can.

Why would start awarding it to the worst GM in the league?

I'd love to win an award in this league. Damn, I may have started to get good at the wrong time.

1-5 week, including getting absolutely demolished by Maine. Destroyed. When I say demolished, I mean demolished like Gremades-in-a-home-run-derby demolished. We get outscored 38-13 and Maine hits 9 HRs in three games. Worst series I've ever had. We finish the week going 1-2 to Los Lunas, and losing Noah George and Mark Jerome to injury.

Right now we have six starters out with injury - LF Justin Chewning (SEI), 2B Frank Rancourt, C Mark Jerome, 1B Maureo Gonez, SS Noah George, and RP Zhi-qiang Ba (he's getting counted as a starter, since he was our #1 7th/8th inning guy).

For the week, our ERA was 7.83.

Oh yeah, Curt Halpern wins DL player of the week, hitting .348 with three HRs and a 1.226 OPS. I'd like to take the opportunity to mention that Halpern is only 28 years old, still arbitration eligible for 1986, and is currently hitting .331 with a 1.013 OPS... and you can have him for a great young SP prospect. What a deal!

Ok I just tried my first 'Clay-style deal' and it did not work.

Does this type of trade talk negotiating come with a manual?

At least I recognized and complimented you on using the Clay-method. You didn't hate one of my fake players enough though... to have that true sense of Clay.

Is that why you're not getting back to me, your finagling a deal with someone else? Sheesh!

I wish I was that cunning.

I didn't see your PM until you just mentioned it.

This deal was for something else.

See... that's very anti-Clay. I work one trade at a time. Slow and steady.

Also, building a relationship with somebody helps.

Clay and I have had three separate trades now if I'm not mistaken. Maybe two. But I feel it's three.

I really don't like Clay, though. I grew up having an animosity toward people of leadership. That's why Andrew sometimes needs time away. It's after all the PMs I send him about his personality and character. Andrew is very sensitive.

Well that isn't always true. Clay and Sully refuse to trade with me. We have relationships. Some of the longest on this site.

That's not completely true. I've traded with you in the past. Lukies and Reader for MacAdie.... I've just always said two things... (1) you have to pay the Stout Division Tax... it would be the same for Sully and Morgantown... and (2) I know how you scout players and if they are guys you're willing to part with... I don't trust that they're any good.

                                1. True. But that was years (in-game) ago. Pretty good trade for both teams, especially if MacAdie didn't get hurt. He was tearing it up in DC.

                                2. How do I scout players?
