  • SIM COMPLETE - 1985 - Regular Season 5

    Next sim: Tuesday

Interesting series between Maine and Sin City. In Friday's game Clint Waits no hit Sin City through 9 innings before losing the game and his no hitter by allowing a solo HR in the 10th. Gil O'Moore followed it up on Saturday by throwing a no hitter. I imagine this is as close as we'll ever come to back to back no hitters.

Jesus, Alsina hit the crap out of the ball this week. My bats are alive, but I need pitching. We miss Aurillo. I'd kill to have Coto or Lacour.

3-3 moves us to 16-16 on the year...the wheels haven't fallen off yet!

Sizer is hitting .344, Finbow is hitting .328 with 6 HR's, and Bing is hitting .298. Cam Mills continues to suck.

            6-26 on the season

Sweet... at least the guys down on the farm are producing but who knows how long that will last. My team's future rests on those guys. It just isn't getting better any time soon. I can't wait till I get to restructure my minors when the new guys come on board.

Oh well, I'm still addicted :)

I see that Virginia moved above .500 for, as far as I know, the first time since Clay took over the team. I read somewhere that one should always treat the people you meet on the way up well because you will meet the same people on the way down (as you pass going in opposite ditections, I presume). I am glad I have always treated Clay with courtesy and respect in accordance with this rule.

4-2, should have been 5-1 but blew a save in game two.

Proud of how the guys hit this sim.

                  Washington Bats (2-4) (16-16 overall)

                  The Week
Going 2-1 against Philly is about what I expected. Getting swept by California is the exact opposite of what I expected. I am now in third place in the Stout at 16-16. Wilmington sits at the top at 18-14, then Virginia at 17-15, myself and then Morgantown at 15-17. Going to be quite the race this year in the Stout.

                  The Good
-I get 1B Joe Sierra and MR Dave Beard back from the DL this week. Both were lost to SEIs last season.
-1B/C Keita Uchiyama continues to be red-hot. This week he hit four homeruns.

                  The Bad
-Leadoff hitter Michio Nago really struggled this week at the top of the lineup and it killed my offense in some games.
-Three loses to California by a total of four runs. Ugh.

                  The Ugly
-Last season Romano Gonzalez went 6-16 last season despite a 4.04 ERA. This year, he is on pace for 10-25 with a 3.88 ERA.

5-1 sim, and I couldn't be happier at the moment. While it wasn't two top tier teams, a win is a win. The bad news is SP Eric Cafferty is out for 1-2 weeks.

Adam Nickell is now hitting .391 with Gonzalez batting .330 and recording 28 RBIs (most of them Nickell).

There was a brawl netting two 10 game suspensions in AA. These brawls are happening on almost a daily occurance these days.

5-1 week for the Whale... although it was against two sub-par teams in Sin City and Mississippi. However, any week about .500 is a reason to drink in Hartford. Pitt is already running away with the division, so looks like it's Wild Card time...

Pat, I wouldn't be too hard on Nago... he definitely had me cursing a couple of times... he robbed us of a ton of runs in the field.

                          Virginia Colonials (17-15) - Week 4

                          3-0 vs Los Alamos
                          1-2 @ Windy City

                          THE GOOD
                          - We rattled off a 10-game winning streak by taking the first 4 of this sim via a Los Alamos sweep and a Game 1 win @ Windy City. You never expect a sweep even against a team this is struggling, but I certainly had good battles with the Bandits prior to the Game 3 gem from Arrendondo.

                          - Joshua Poling leads is the IL Batting Leader after another strong week (.360/.407/.600). I know there was a ton of heat for the deal that brough Poling and O'Hegarty to Virginia for Joe Sargentini... and even I'm starting to feel a little guilty. These guys have been pretty darn good so far this year.

                          - Got wins from my 3/4/5 pieces of my rotation. Arrendondo continues to shine. Magness is doing enough to win while still living on a pitch count. And Barrerra shocks us by going out and hanging tough in our one win in Chicago.

                          THE BAD
                          - Tom Tilbrook and Martin Carlton have an epic 11 pitching at bat in the bottom of the 9th. The at bat started with Tilbrook going down 0-2 without taking the bat off of his shoulder. He'd foul off 5 of the next 8 pitches before planting one in the bleachers on a full count pitch. It was Carlton's first ER allowed, first blown save... and lead the Playboys to a 10th inning win when Criston Perez took an 0-2 offering from Joe Negron into the upperdeck.

                          - Despite climbing above .500 for the first time in who knows how long, the Colonials take on the other two IL division leaders next sim with 3-game series with Baltimore and Carolina. The bullpen has to improve for their to be any type of continued success.

                          THE UGLY
                          - Errol Blue has been throwing BP all season. The kid who was the steal of the Rule 5 a few years bback has turned to garbage so far this season. A decreased role in the bullpen should be coming and perhaps a trip to Detroit to work the kinks out.
                          The Great One!

                          To many rings to count...

Virginia would win the IL Wild Card....
