So with our 2 4th round picks, we select a couple of high school 2nd basemen with Aiden Peters and Pat Smith. Both young men have put up exceptional numbers at the plate this year. Aiden is more of a contact hitter from the right side of the plate, while Smith’s power potential from the left side is an obvious plus if he can make it to The Show.

Two fifth round picks from the Bats. We doubled up on Miami pitchers, going with SP Dave Koons and RP Jamie Waechter. There's nothing special about Koons, but he was the best SP available on my board and I needed to grab at least one or two more. He throws four pitches and should be able to keep the ball in the park. Probably needs to gain some velocity to project for anything more than back of the rotation ability and that may be a lofty goal for him already.

Waechter is listed as a SP, but he's never started a game in college and is stuck in the bullpen going forward. He only throws 89-91, but he's racked up a ton of strikeouts at the college level- 93 K's in 54 innings of relief work. Walks were a major issue for him this season after they were kept to a manageable level previously. My scout thinks pretty highly of him, so hopefully he can develop into a useful lefty out of the pen.
