  • BLB Feeder Leagues

    Andrew, or anyone that knows:

I'm assuming that the players for the BLB draft are just randomly created for the purpose of filling our draft pool, but I was wondering why we dont use a feeder league of high schools and colleges?

This would create stats for all of the guys in the draft, or at least most of them.

It would perhaps help us in deciding who to pick by giving them a past, but if not, it would be nice to track their progress throughout the year vs. when the draft comes up. We could see if a guy has progressed since his freshman year of HS or even if he is injury prone.

Plus, I believe our scouts will scout them throughout their high school/college careers, thus enabling them to build up past scouting reports on these guys. This could help out quite a bit.

This is really something I'd like to see implemented, but I'm curious to see if anyone has any other thoughts on this.

I believe the reason we haven't had this in the past is due to the size of the league file. But I could be wrong. I'd love it as well.

      Hmm, that makes sense.

I thought I heard that with OOTP9 the files got smaller. Maybe I'm thinking of something else, but the league seems to load and update faster since the switch.

Just a thought if thats actually the reason we've never had it.

I love the league load time now. And the best news is I don't have to turn off McAfee like I did with 8 when closing out the game.

I love the idea of feeder leagues, international scouting, and all that other jazz. However, I don't think the game has proven itself stable enough for us to consider any of this a realistic possibility. I'm just happy we finally got the damn league going again.

We do it in another league and it works.

We even have an Independent League with guys sometimes trying to make the jump.

Any idea how it affects league file size?

I guess my opinion is that if we are going to add another league, it would be more interesting to add a short-season rookie league as we have discussed before. I'm not very wild about the idea about adding a bunch of high school and college stats to analyze as well as the scouting reports.

So, after speaking to the commish of the other league, he said it doesn't affect the league size much at all.

He did say that the html file will be larger, but that's the bulk of the size increase.

How much bigger I don't know. But, he's got highschool, college, and independent leagues going on in the background.

He did suggest that you try running a few tests.

I will say that loading the league file isn't really a pain. It takes slightly longer than loading the BLB file, but it's not much longer in my opinion.

I like the sound of that.

Any way we can run some tests to see what the difference would be? That way we can have some concrete numbers to compare.

Do you know how many feeder leagues he's running? I haven't used them much but if i remember correctly only a fraction of the players in a feeder league actually make it to the draft. Thus, you'd need an extremely large number of feeder leagues to get background stats, etc for the entire draft class.

I'm not sure I like the idea of feeder leagues. I think most of us would agree that the biggest bitching point in the BLB is the injuries. I'm afraid that giving these rookies wear and tear on their virtual bodies before they ever play a Single A game is only going to impact them negatively.
