  • 2026 Ancillary Tangential Draft Talk

Found this in another league forum...it's the anti tanking measure. Thought it was cool.

I'm not sure where "62" wins game from. That's a WP of 38%.

Option 1: No changes, leave the system is it currently is

Option 2: Draft order determined by sticky positions tied to wins, for example:

    Team A wins 35, B 38, C 45, D 55, E 58, F 69, G 70
*The team closes to 62 wins would receive highest pick

    1. E 58 wins (4 away)
    2. D 55 wins (7 away)
    3. F 69 wins (7 away) - tie breaker necessary and would be ironed out if approved
    4. G 70 wins (8 away)
    5. C 45 wins (17 away)
    6. B 38 wins (24 away)
    7. A 35 wins (27 away)

Option 3: An assigned probability of #1 overall pick is assigned and an order is selected by random. Think NBA draft and ping pong balls. Again the details would be hashed out if we were to decide to go this direction but a possible suggestion would be:

Top 5 teams closest to 62 wins would receive a weighted opportunity to win the #1 pick. After those 5 teams are slotted the worst team left would get the #6 pick and so forth. A team winning 30 games in a season would be guaranteed the 6th overall pick unless they were in the tier of 5 teams closest to 62.

Using the above scenario teams E, D, F, G and C would each receive a weighted chance at winning the #1 pick with E receiving the highest probability and so on. Again, details to be hammered out.

I’m not anti tanking... I’m anti exporting... Tanking, is a plan to rebuild... My thought would be if someone doesn’t export a certain number (unexplained, cause stuff happens) then they lose draft position...

But, if I had to choose, i’d go with the ping pong balls.

Are we really discussing this in the draft thread?

I really don't have an option as an owner. Through a series of poor financial decisions, and a player option that bit me in the ass, I haven't been able to sign a BLB player for the past 2 offseasons. Trading away players to reduce payroll is pretty much all I can do at this point to dig us out of the red.
Guys have tanked in this league for years, and now all of a sudden it's an issue?

Good thing I've only been bad for one season. Jesus Christ. I can't wait to see the draft discussion thread two seasons from now.

Nah man, do your thing. You grabbed your two rings now grab your #1s. It’s the BLB circle of life. I’ve embraced it. Just field your regular teams and younger players/AAAA types. That was my biggest issue - benching good players and playing too many players out of position to maximize losing. That’s not in the spirit of the game.

This is not real life... As a Toronto Maple Leaf, I’m glad my team burned it down, tanked, got Austin Matthews, and is now a top 5 NHL team...

as as long as you are exporting, and putting out guys that are BLB players, and looking after injuries, etc. Tanking is completely viable.

Unfortunately, not every BLB franchise is created equally... which I believe, forces the tanking hand of some owners...

Teams like California or Montreal have been to the playoffs a handful of times in their history, I’m guessing they’ve had multiple ownership changes that lead to dumb past decisions, small stadiums, small budgets, fairweather fans, etc.

All of this seems to lead lead to a fickle owner/game engine that harshly rewards being mediocre. Tanking at least gives you 3-5 of playing really good baseball... Then start the process all ober again!

I literally can't do anything but add minor league players at this point. That's the price I'm paying for being a little too aggressive financially. We won a couple titles, so it is what it is. I can hold on to players and watch the team steadily decline over the years, and eventually start a rebuild. Or I can speed up the process, and unload now. As we improve financially, hopefully we can start to add some vets in FA to pair up with the picks we are stockpiling.

You are doing the right thing... Ask Miami Marlin fans if they'd rather be perpetually mediocre, or have the two titles... As a life long Detroit Lions fan, I would love to see a full tank and a title, over the four years of blah (Not counting the Barry years) that I've seen!

Perhaps we should rename tanking... to get rid of the negative connotation.

There is no argument that tanking is in the spirit of competitiveness. That being said, it is the way things are done in many of today’s sports.

So.... can we please stop annoying Sully so he can either pick or trade? Thanks.

In regards to my franchise, I don't think I can be accused of tanking.
Tanking means you purposely suck for a short period of time in hopes of rebuilding a contender.
I'm not trying to suck and I think Moses arrived at his destination quicker than I will.
