        Dam bad news for Philly.

1-5 for us, our usual April start. Get two guys off the DL in one week. Well...can't get mush worse can it?

          3-3 star for California.

          Pitching looked pretty solid.

Liked that Shannon hit three home runs in the first week... seeing as he hit three all of last year.

            Javalinas go 2 - 4.

SP Letonan, acquired in the controversial Guggierez trade, pitched a complete game shutout in his first outing (against Syracuse).

I want to make sure I understand what our league rule is regarding the players that were waived because they had no minor league options left. I'm assuming we can't remove our own players from waivers until they clear (assuming they're not claimed); and we're free to claim other team's players before they clear. Is this correct?

4-2 sim for the Tobs, though our best hitters did nothing. We got some surprising play from some of the backups, but Jimmy Joy will be back this week and Opio isn't too far away. So there's some hope for us with hitting.

Not a bad week for us.

                5-1 sim, 2-1 @ LAM, 3-0 vs. WC

                The Good
Veteran Starting Pitching: My scout thinks Joe Chavarraga and Romano Gonzalez are slipping, but don't tell them that. Chav went 2-0, giving up 4 ER in 13.2 IP, while striking out 13. Gonzalez pitched a CG, giving up 3 ER and striking out 7.
An Effective Bullpen: New closer Grant Lewis had two saves, and the bullpen combined for 8.2 scoreless innings.
Meat of the Order: Michio Nago hit .320, RA Grounds hit .375, Keita Uchiyama hit .333 and Jerry Fortin hit .300.

                The Bad
Dan Hogan is lost for the year: I really had this guy pegged for a bounce back year. Even if his bat was average this season he provides so much defensively and on the base paths, that this is a huge loss.
Left handed hitters: Well, not Nago, but my others have struggled. SS Pete Summers hit .227, OF Oscar Paulet hit .188 and CF Innis Merriam (who played when Hogan went down) hit just 1/13.

                The Disabled
Joe Sierra is back in the starting lineup: For the first time since May of 1984, the face of the franchise returns.
Youth in the Pen: MR Yuan-zhang Chiu was a late season call-up last year but got hurt and spent the entire off-season rehabbing. He should provide even more depth in my new bullpen.

                Tales from the Farm
3B Xalbador Ansoategui: Acquired in the MR/SP George Neilly trade with Indianapolis, the 2nd year minor leaguer made an awesome debut in Double-A. He hit .367 with two homeruns. In 54 games last season, he hit just five.
Top 3 in AAA: My top three prospects in Triple-A, C Mike Murdock, LF Miguel Angel Padilla and 1B Jon Stirling, all hit closer to .400 than they did .300. Oh, and all three are top 100 prospects.

4-2. I'll take it. 1 win from each O'Loughlin and Cafferty, as I had hoped.

                  Talk about some fast starts:
23-year-old Adam Nickell sent shock waves through Brewers League Baseball last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the Domestic League Player of the Week Award.

A newcomer to the league, Nickell made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .692 average, 18 hits in 26 at-bats, 1 home run and 5 RBI.
                  and Victor Gonzalez went 11/23, with 4 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR and only 2K's. I love this kid.

4-2, not bad. We had 3 extra inning games... we played 13 extra innings on our trip to Baltimore and had an 11 inning game vs Batavia. Thats alot of innings for the 1st week of the season. Mun did very well in his 1st week with the team, I just hope he continues to help us with his bat. Davenport and Carolina up next.

5-1, but an ugly 5-1. Buzz, Gremades, Coker, McGee, and Clapp are raking while Ch'oe, Leal, Nazaire, and Dupuis are sucking. Abe and Lang got roughed up in their first starts, and the bullpen was meh. Delosantos has officially worn out his welcome in Pittsburgh also, what a bum and waste of money.

Good news though is that Steve Allmark (AAA) jumped to 6-5-5 and will take his spot in the bullpen.

                        3-3 sim

                        The good:
                        - Swept Denver
                        - My 1-2 hitters, Charlie MacCabe and Kyoden Kubota, both hit over .400 for the week. It's a little unorthodox having my C in the #2 spot but he gets on base so well it would be a crime not to.

                        The bad:
                        - Swept by Dallas
                        - Tough start for Gil O'Moore. Not how I hoped he'd react to being made our #1 starter.
                        - Orrin Brudenell apparently incited a brawl. He beaned Amato Albors after giving up a 2 run HR to the previous batter. He'll miss his next start.

                        The ugly:
                        - My bullpen. Middle relief got shelled and van Slyke blew a save to Dallas in the bottom of the 9th. Dallas went on to win in 16 innings.

You can't remove your own players becuase they are all on irrevocable waivers. You can claim players from other teams as you please. However, some might consider it unsporting to claim a player from another team and then try to sneak him into your minors by waiving him again.

                            The Good

Started 2-1 against the IL defending Champs

                            The Bad

Lost 2 out of three to California

                            The ugly

Most of my regulars rested the first week as I neglected to turn off the 7-day lineups I had been using during spring training.

I'm very happy to be 3-3 after that boneheaded omission.

At least you weren't the only one. I think Dallas was using a 1 man rotation.
