SS Antonio Melendez has quietly curved his season back around. He was terrible at the plate for the first 4 months of the season, but a strong Aug and Sep give me hope for his future. He was one of those prospects never on the Top 100 list that always confused me.

Can't complain... even if we go 0-2 the next two games Windy City will finish the month of September at worst with a .500 record... the only month this year we can make that claim.

Of course, Seattle gets a heavy dose of Sarazin/Teel (four starts) the final two weeks to ruin their Bock hopes. Glad to have you back Linty....

            ---

This has to be one of the more exciting BLB finales we have had in a long time:

+No division is settled. All within five games, two with head-to-heads between 1st vs. 2nd place.
+Four DL teams competing for the final WC spot
+Two IL teams competing for the final WC spot
+HFA still in play between KC and Batavia
+A lot of teams with the chance to play spoiler (DEN, WC, PHX, NY, PHI, HAR, SYR, PAW, CAL, MON)
+#1 pick still up for grabs between PHX/CAL
            Wilmington Wildcats- 2057-
            Seattle Pilots- 2017-2041
            Washington Bats - 1979-2013

Another week with only one loss (6-1) but still 4 games back of Batavia. I'll have to give Ismael (our manager) and the guys credit. They have played well in the 2nd half of the season again, with 44 wins since the All-Star break, tied for 2nd most wins over that span and trailing only Batavia (47).

Four games back, we have a very small chance to win the Stout but I'm not going risk too much, giving rest to a few guys during this last week. CJ hit 4 more home runs this week, putting him just 1 home run behind Ulloa and 2 RBI behind Fredrickson in his chase for that elusive triple crown.

I know he won't win the league award, but I've got to give some love to OUR ROY, SP Joey Schultz. The 24 year old rookie leads the team in wins with 17. Now I know that wins is a largely ignored stat in today's baseball, but I think it still holds some weight in quickly gauging a pitcher's contribution to the team. He will likely end the year with over 200 IP, an ERA under 3.50, and still lead the team in quality starts. He's also growing into a team leader early, which will be needed when our rotation is shaken up a bit with departures next season. All of this from a 6th round selection.

We really have to take our hats off to Batavia. Our boys have been playing magnificently and they (Batavia)have not faltered. I had hoped that we could catch them in the final weeks but they are making a meal of every team they face. Right now, I'd just like to see us hold on to that # 1 wildcard and I'll be happy with the result of this regular season.

We look forward to seeing if there is any residual playoff magic for the Bulldogs to use from last year.

You had too much of a lead. If we went 6-0 we would still be 3 back.

Well, looks like we will lock up another Top 3 pick so hopefully able to get another impact player in the draft.

Good news is I will hopefully be able to finish off remodeling my stadium to be a bit more hitter friendly this offseason with my cheap payroll.
