Pick is in. Hemmed and hawed around on this pick but my scout wanted to has this kid's babies so went with him. Not crazy about his intangibles and he'll end up in the bullpen unless he comes up with another pitch but he can throw the heat.GM - Davenport Brawlers BLB

I got back and made my pick- time to load up my list for the next couple of rounds.
CL Dave Maxwell from UCLA- preparing for my future bullpen. Maxwell was a beast at UCLA and struck out approximately 2 batters an inning. He also never gave up a HR. Should be a fast riser. This draft is thin on top end starters so I'll hopefully get another arm to join Jackson and Davis to form a formidable pen in the future.

Baltimore goes with 17 year old hurler, Ted Smith. He doesn't look like anything TOO special but my scout believes he could anchor a rotation so he is drafted with no hesitation.
I like the fact that he doesn't give up a ton of HR, had a good K/BB ratio for a high schooler, is a 3X HS All-Star and accumulated the 2nd most WAR among draft eligible HS pitchers.Last edited by Delandis; 01-30-2018, 08:21 PM.

Two second round picks for the Bats.
2.4 - 3B Rory Smith- Moved up to get this guy. I like the all-around package here at 3B - solid bat, glove, personality. Wasn't as good this season as he was in 2024, but still had a pretty good year. He kind of reminds of me of my current top 3B prospect, Jayden Alexander (making me question why I picked Smith). Third base has been kind of a revolving door for me, hopefully I've got a long-term solution in the pipeline now.
2.11 - RF Ron Thornton - Had a highly productive career in the Cape league, including a monster 2025 year when he was one of the top hitters in the league (.378/.480/.767 slash, 20 HRs). My scout think he has big-time power, OSA has him more of an all-around solid hitter. Probably nothing spectacular here, but if he can be an above average hitter for a corner outfielder, that would be nice. We don't have a ton of those types in my system at the position. I really struggled with this pick - still second guessing it.
Five picks made now. I don't have another one until the last pick of the 5th round, so this will most likely be the last ones I write about. Pretty happy with how it turned out.Washington Bats, 2013-
