Hey least this year we didn't start 1-5 like last year. Progress. Also got swept again at home to Hartford.

Time to take advantage of the waivers!!!

Wow, a 6-1 start for the Brawlers. Timely hitting and some good pitching carried the day. Wonder how long it will last as I really don't trust my bullpen much and that hitting won't always be timely.

              2-4 just as I had predicted: 1-2 @ Davenport, 1-2 @ Death Valley

-FA import SP Geoff Phillips lost his no-hit bid in the 8th inning and ended up getting the loss in a 0-1 game at Death Valley. But I'm encouraged by the result. He's a flyball pitcher that struggled with Batavia's DHs trying to roam the outfield. Our rotation could be our achilles heel this season however. The positional strength ranks us 20th and already the rotation has been responsible for all four losses. I feel OK about our top four, but as a 1-4 but the 5th and 6th spots are going to be a game of musical chairs.

-The only two hitters who showed up this week were 1B Andy Ulloa (not a surprise) and CF Pat Cerveny (quite the surprise). I doubt he hits like this for the whole season but Cerveny is poised for a strong rookie season. He had two SB this week which is a lot for the Pilots. He should also be in the running for a DWI in CF given the playing time.

-My owner only wants a winning record this season which is a bit of a reality check. Hopefully we can manage. I'm also surprised to see we already have 10 players Very Unhappy to Unhappy, which is worrisome.

It's going to be another long season of confounding decisions by Jermaine Edmunds at the helm of the Kodiaks... We never bunt our light hitting short stop Collins, but we love to bunt our young stud 3B Erik Redding, only to see Mike Morla get a walk, the wasting his at bat... He also loves to leave the starters in until the get into trouble... With this pitching he may figure he has no choice, but this has been a problem plaguing the team for years... plus, don't want to blame poor roster construction!

Oh yeah, and three first round picks, in a draft that looks like ass! Is it just me, or is the game falling into a trap of having good drafts every other year for the last few years...

                    Week in Review 3-3 (2-1 @ Indy, 1-2 @ Miami)

                    - Great start for our pitching staff. #2 in the DL in ERA and #1 in runs allowed. Dan Bradford had a strong debut going 7 IP, allowing 6 H and 2 R in a 3-2 win @ Indy.

                    - Slow start for our offense, especially Viger and Pelloni. We're perhaps expecting too much of CF Garret Antcliff after his strong spring training. I still think he's our best option in CF but it's probably a mistake to bat a rookie leadoff.

                    - Rookie 1B Dave Hodge started his career with a 6 game hitting streak. He hit .400 for the week with 2 HR.

                    - Random Tidbit: In game 1 Joey Walz was at the plate for the game tying wild pitch in the top of the 9th. In game 2 he was at the plate for the game winning balk in the top of the 8th. Walz struck out both times.

Looking Ahead (3 @ Montreal, 3 vs Miami)

                    -
OF Dusty Guercio returns from an oblique injury. He should help our lineup vs LHP. Jimmy Ham will be optioned to AAA to make space on the active roster.

Sorry for the 26-man roster Brad. I was positive I had all my ducks in a row.
Thanks for fixing it for me.

We opened with a 5-1 week. Got some favorable matchups, with 6 home games, all against right-handed starters. I think we'll do ok against LHP, but some of my better lefty hitters crushed the ball this week against the RHP.

Dave Schneider won IL Player of the Week - hitting .500, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 7 runs scored. Dave Blackmon nearly matched him hit-for-hit, also going .500 on the week. Most of my other hitters were just ok, but with two big performers to rely on, it was a good week at the plate.

On the mound, Ed Carroll won both his starts, pitching well in both games. At the bottom of the rotation, Yang and Hall both had solid starts, doing exactly what I want them to do - just give us a chance in those games.

Only 5 games for us next week, as we ease into the new year with plenty of off days. But, we have two against Baltimore, which I assume will go just as well as the playoff series did. We then head out on the road for the first time to face Philly.

Go go Denver Offense. I know our offense is improved but this past week was ridiculous.

We go 6-0 sweeping two teams that started the season winless. I think we'll rein in the excitment until we see this on a consistent basis against teams playing well (at the time of the sim).
