Probably but that would’ve happened whether he’s there or not.

While we wait for Sim 1:

Breakout candidate in Washington - I think I've only got one option here - 1B Jimmy Harris. I've heard a little bit of skepticism about whether he's ready or good enough to be my everyday 1B, but the job is his to start the year. Harris was my first round pick in the 2019 draft, and like a lot of high school prospects he's taken his time in the minors. But, he had a good season last year in AAA and backed it up with a good showing in Spring Training (.319, 3 HR, 19 RBI - 2nd in the league). My scout has always liked his bat, even if he no longer projects him to be a generational talent at the plate. It may take a little bit of time, but I think Harris will do just fine at 1B.

I'm also hoping for a "comeback" season from 3B Micah Ruggieri. Last year I got really solid play from Omar Baber, who had kind of washed out in New York. This season, Ruggieri is my candidate. He lost his job in Carolina, but he's another guy that looks like he might have more ability than he's shown so far. I brought him up for September last season and he put together a solid month of play. My offseason shuffling has given him an opportunity at 3B to start the season and hopefully he'll take it and run with it. He's also got great intangibles- I got an email saying how great he is in the locker room when I acquired him last season.

Breakout candidate in Kansas City: 1B Dave Hodge. A 2nd round pick in the 2022 draft, Hodge has risen quickly through the Kansas City system. He's put up great numbers at every level and is BLB ready according to our scouts and OSA. We're hoping Hodge can replace the offense lost by TJ Corbett's departure in free agency. As a bonus, Hodge should also provide above average defense at 1B.

Comeback candidate #1: 2B Tom Pelloni really struggled in 2024 after signing a big extension. I re-signed him as insurance under the assumption that Erik Jackson will opt out after this season. Right now that looks like a huge mistake but we're hoping Pelloni can bounce back.

Comeback candidate #2: P Jimmy Burkhead. Drafted 1st overall in the expansion draft, Burkhead is our longest tenured player. He suffered a torn labrum in July so wasn't able to participate in the Comets' Brewmasters Cup Championship. With the acquisition of Dan Bradford, Burkhead will move to the bullpen this season. His Stuff rating went up to a 6 when I changed his position to RP so I think he can have some success there. We're hoping the addition of Burkhead and Dave Morlan will greatly improve our bullpen which struggled and lacked depth in 2024.

I was so upset I didn’t even see Burkhead in the expo.

I'm able to cope knowing that there was a little bit of the Exports in KC when they won the Brewers Cup.
Somewhere deep down in the cockles of the Comets. Maybe in the sub-cockle area.
