  • 1985 Amateur Draft

The draft will start at Noon PM ET on Thursday Nov 13th. The draft utility can be found HERE and there is also a link under Utilities in the BLB menu bar.

Please look at the utility to make sure all traded picks are correct.

Please don't draft the players named "Sandwich Round". These are dummy players I created to fill the Sandwich Round slots and will be deleted after the draft.

    Pick Time Limits:
    1st Round & Sandwich: 8 hours
    2nd Round & Sandwich: 4 hours
    Remaining Rounds: 2 hours

Managers who go over their time limit will be placed on Autopick until they return.

The draft clock runs between 8 am and 12 midnight ET. The utility will not autopick for you if you go over your time. I have to do it manually so please make use of the preference list to avoid going over the time limit and delaying the draft. Please let me know if you have any questions on how to use the utility.

    Preference List Usage

    - To add players to your Preference List click the check box next to their name and click the 'Add to List' button. You can then move players up and down the list or remove them using the provided buttons.

    Autopick preferences
<!--[if !supportLists]--><!--[endif]-->- Auto Pick: Auto-pick a player. The auto-pick uses an algorithm to determine whom it thinks it the next best player. This can be used on scouted leagues, and the algorithm intentionally “fuzzies” the player ratings, so it may not pick the best player available.

<!--[if !supportLists]--><!--[endif]-->- Auto Pick by List: Will auto-pick a player using whoever is highest on the manager’s draft list. If no draft list exists for the manager, it will just auto-pick using the utility’s algorithm.

    - If both are selected, it defaults to 'Auto-draft using draft list'. If 'Auto-draft using draft list' is selected, and no players are in the draft list, no selection will be made and the manager will have to draft manually.

Remember to click 'Save' after you make any changes to your draft preferences or player preference list.

Wow! This draft is going to be crazy! I don't know about anyone else, but the difference between SISA and my Scouting Department is apples and oranges. I've come up with and refined a formula over the last 6 seasons that I like to call "Shaver-Metrics". Using the exact same formula on the database for both my Scouts and for SISA and it's a huge difference. Without getting into any names... using a frame of reference as a "Sandwhich Round" scoring between 16.00 - 18.50... here are the scores for the top 10 ranked BATTERS by my scouts (names ommitted) and how they compare to the same SISA ratings and rank:

    #1 -- 52.50 (30.25 #62)
    #2 -- 50.25 (31.25 #48)
    #3 -- 44.00 (35.00 #23)
    #4 -- 42.75 (32.50 #39)
    #5 -- 42.50 (38.00 #11)
    #6 -- 40.75 (35.75 #22)
    #7 -- 40.25 (25.25 #136)
    #8 -- 40.00 (22.75 #165)
    #9 -- 39.50 (43.00 #3)
    #10 -- 39.25 (30.50 #61)

Crazy! As Smear said... here are going to be a ton of headscratchers this year.

I'm seeing the same thing. I'm a bit nervous about this. I wonder if SISA is really that terrible or the scouting of amateurs is no where near as clear as it used to be. I'll be intersted after the first round or so to see some comparisons here between scouts on the top guys.

I'm getting the same thing... and it's not even close.

This is either going to be a ton of fun, or a huge mess.

I think this year is going to be a major crapshoot. I've been trying to read the OOTP boards and find some time to do "research" in SP to figure out who to trust... but I'm at a loss.

On the plus side, the draft should be fun.... there will be a lot of instant critiques from the peanut gallery.

The worst part is that we won't even get a Mock Draft because people won't want to show their hand. Although, I guess someone could do one from SISA.

I wonder how much scouting budgets would impact this. I would have thrown a lot more money at amatuer scouting if I had forseen this.

We were all in the same boat for this season because it scouts automatically. It's not too late to set it high before the next sim if you think it will help.

I dont think it would've mattered for this year, but it'll apply towards next years class.

Its kinda neat how you'll be able to move your expenses around based on how you view your teams needs.

I think its a crapshoot only because we aren't used to the system. Give it about 3 or 4 seasons to catch a pattern. I think its pretty cool this way though.

I'm actually glad I'm not drafting in the top 5. I can see a few picks before mine, and get a good feeling about how other scouts are rating certain players. I'll be able to tell if it's similar to mine.

I was wondering, Andrew(or if anyone else can answer), since 15 rounds worth of picks were created, right? So does that mean there may be potential, un-drafted gems that we'll be able to sign following the draft?

I understand what you are saying, but your scout could be "wrong" on the guy you pick. I agree, being outside of the top 5 will give us a feel to see if our scouts are agreeing, but that doesn't mean we can't select a total bust at anytime.

Yes, I'm pretty sure those players will be free-agents after the draft. I doubt you will find any gems however.

I think Mississippi should tell us who he's picking. No sim between now and then... no pressure... he can just tell us... but it won't be official until Andrew turns on the utility till Noon tomorrow.

In fact, I think the Top 4 guys should all go ahead and let us know which way you're going....
