What happened was we did a version change in the off-season of 1987 I believe. Whatever version we switched to allowed any pitcher with at least three pitches and three stamina, could be a SP. And wow what a pitcher be became. That season he started in relief because I had no idea of the change, but once he switched to SP he was 20-0 in 26 starts. Won our 2nd Brewmaster's that year, even though he went 0-2 in the playoffs. He went on to have three more great seasons as a SP and then Clay edited him out of the league at 35 years old.
I remember it like it was yesterday. Every time I would submit a FA offer, exactly his demands, it would vanish like it never happened. Then once he became a Free-Agent, his demands went from like $15M to $800k. So I offered like $5M or something, and the next sim he just retired.
