  • All the good scouts want to be GMs?

The other personnel thread reminded me of this recent issue.

For those that haven't noticed, multiple of the leagues better scouting talents have left their clubs to test the FA waters. Unfortunately, they refuse to sign as scouting directors and only want to be GMs or assistant GMs. While this is probably a natural progression in real life, it sucks for us because the assistant GM (I believe) has zero impact in the BLB and we are all the GMs of our teams. They are also unwilling to sign as an assistant GM and be moved to scouting director. I've tried. It doesn't work. #PatCheats

I don't go on the OOTP forums like I did in the early days of the BLB but is this a common issue? Is there a resolution with the newer version?

I see someone like Clarence Price, Deug Paek, Hector Rivera or Valerio Mauperrin, and they are better than probably 2/3 of the scouting directors employed in the BLB. We are all dealing with the same issue so it's not a problem of things being "unfair" but it is kinda lame that these guys are basically going to waste away waiting for a GM opportunity that will never come.

I read in some places that personnel like to be promoted over time. Price wouldn't resign with me, he wanted to be promoted. You spending $450k on him as an Assistant GM was great for his 401k though!

If you look though all those Decent to Good scouts have 0 years experience. I'm pretty sure Markus is coding the personnel like the players. Hire a young guy and build him up.

Sign the guy to be an assistant GM and then demote him to the position of your choice. #PatCheats

Well worth the risk on a one-year deal.

No...that's what I'm saying. That doesn't work. They refuse to be a scouting director.

I think it's kinda cool to have a natural progression and then sign young guys and watch them get better.

Also I'm not really sure how much the difference between Outstanding vs a Good scout sees things. Especially with our ratings scale of 2-8 and scouting accuracy on Normal (not trying to stir the pot just throwing out other variables).

I tried to bait a few guys who were assistant GMs to become scouts. One finally bit to become my scout. The rest told me no,
