  • Question about cash

So, right now I am at $19,476,133. I am $11 mill over budget. So I technically have $8,358,596 left in cash. If I make a trade, and receive cash, the max I could get is $500K or could I get like $12 mill?

The only time the $20 million max comes into play is at the end of the season. If you make a trade you will be eligible to recieve up to the total remaining salary of the player(s) received in that trade.

Awesome. Exactly what I wanted to hear.

      -second question-

What is the penalty for being over budget? But still having the cash to cover...don't we have some luxury tax or something.

Luxury tax is based on your payroll

Finishing in the red is only an issue if you do it two seasons in a row. The exact penalty is being finalized but it will likely include a change in Market Size and/or loss of draft picks.

So what is the Luxury tax limit? I'm positive I am over it, and curious of what I will have to do.

              Luxury Tax
              • The Luxury Tax is $90 million
              • Any team who's Player Expenses exceed the luxury tax will be penalized 50% of the amount they go over.
              • Luxury taxes paid will be distributed evenly among all teams with revenue below the league average.

It is 50% of player costs over $90 million, I believe. It could hit you pretty hard if after this season if you don't cut payroll.

Guess I will have to just win it all to make it worth it...

Decided to just post my question in an existing thread...

Question 2) In the past we were able to disperse cash received in a trade over the years of a contract...are we still able to do this?

For example: I trade for a guy who has a three year deal at $9 mill per. I receive $9 mill in cash. Can I change his contract to like $6 mill per?

I don't think we can do that anymore, but I could be wrong.

Yes, you can. It would be a mistake to do this in the current year of the contract though once the season has started. You should add that $3 million to current cash.
