Yes, because that's the going rate for all players.

I was thinking more in line with a late round pick on a minor league guy. Plus i doubt any GM would leave a first round player unprotected so someone else could pick the player up for free. Currently, you want a player, you pay. What's wrong with that?

Thanks for posting that. I thought I'd seen it somewhere. Not to belabour the point, but I just this it's common courtesy to use your DL for injuries... Perhaps that's why California never wins though... Just too damn nice!

It seems that they got rid of it because that was precisely the case. People didn't care about the Rule V and left players unprotected.

top 5 prospects to be exact. once a certain commish saw the oppty to make a trade for unprotected players since it was a "oops" this later lead to the "Fuck Off" post.

I could be wrong but I thought a lot of teams would just pass on their pick. Plus, with the giant FA pool that's out there, I'm sure you could find someone to gamble on. Also, if they don't work out on your BLB team, you can release them or send them down and not return them to their original team.

It was always by accident. That's the issue. Good players would be left unprotected by accident.

It's easier now to know who is rule 5 eligible because the game now lists them for you.

That wasn't always the case. You had to look for them. And you'd think the symbol representing eligibility was easy enough but nope. Long last name? Couldn't see the symbol. On the DL with a legit injury - sorry Mike, had to throw that in ;) - the player wouldn't show up as eligible but would be.

Nothing fun about it being a gotcha! Led to complaints, commish headaches. Its not enjoyable.

Every league I'm in that has it still has angry GMs. Long running leagues with long time OOTP vets still make a mistake. It happens. And it sucks when your top pick is left unprotected by accident.

Pretty much the only drama the Rule V ever provided around here was the players accidentally left unprotected. At least, until the whole Clay thing started happening, but I was gone for most of that.

I liked it, if we could get past that problem. But, I know it's never coming back.

I actually just wished we proposed a rule any prospect 26 or over in the minors was eligible for the draft.

                    simple, done.

That was a very simplistic solution. But you know us, see an ant....get the sledgehammer.

Rule 5 also curbed the hoarding of viable talent that has rotted away in the minors for the last decade or so. We have swung the pendulum to a specific model for team building , but such is life.
