Pawtucket 4-3 on the road. Blew the sweep against Toronto, but hey we won 2 of 3. Then split against Syracuse which ....eh.

15-10 May. Pitching and defense to go along with a bunch of guys who draw walks. Not exactly the blue-print, but its making us competitive in year 4 of this long overhaul. Also looks more and more like we will have more money to spend next season.

2-1 @ Batavia, 2-1 @ Baltimore. Both losses were by a single run, the Batavia loss in extras. Seattle is now 22-23, but just 1-6 in extras and 7-10 in one-run games.

1.5 back of a wild card spot and nine straight home games on the slate. 1B Andy Ulloa is starting to heat up and 3B RJ Cheek fresh off his DL stint is hitting .333/.968 with nine walks in nine games.

OF Pat Webb, acquired from Philly, has a -0.7 WAR in 54 PA in Seattle while IF Ron Moniz, traded to Philly, has a +0.8 WAR in 57 PA. I knew this was going to happen.

Just checked the injury log. Two of my former players, SPs Tom Calligan and Jimmy Razza both went down for lengthy injuries. Could have a pretty big impact on the playoff races.

Terrible news on Calligan. I think everytime I make a post trying to move one of my "extra" pitchers, I almost immediately lose someone for an extended time. Thankfully I still feel ok about my pitching staff, but we no longer have the depth for at least the next three months until Calligan is back. Not sure if we're good enough to hold off Philly, Batavia or Baltimore, but we'll see.

Other than the bad news on Calligan, we went 4-2 on the road, taking both series against Death Valley and Phoenix. We're still #2 in the Power Rankings, but Kansas City looks pretty much unstoppable.

At the plate, Geoff Yonke got hot this week, shaking off his slow start. Micah Garlick is testing my patience - I had high hopes for him but it's not working right now. For the most part we're still being carried by the pitching staff.

The Batavia bullpen has 10 out of the 20 team losses to their credit.

Can’t shake the injury bug. Owens had a setback and Horning is back on the DL. Razza had the demon strike him and he’s gone for the year.

Kidwell with a HR in each of the last two weeks to bring his career total up to 299. One more, then he can take a seat in his rocking chair.

You should start him against Seattle.

Good to see him perhaps settling into a decent groove. That's just the 5th shutout of his career. As dominant of a career as he's had you'd think he would have put up a few more than that over the years. I'm sure being on a pitch count for his entire career has something to say about that, but it's not like he's always coming out early (Eleven 200+ IP seasons under his belt)

The current BLB leader in games played this season is 44-year-old Steve Suarez.

2-4 week as expected, we still holding tight above .500 and one game short of the WC spot, if just Arsenault was playing up to his All-star potential we could be in WC position right now... Oh well, we don't belong this high, so I expect to fall anytime.

                              Couple notes:

Really happy to save face and snag Tom Kreige in the second round. He's the type of HS pitcher I don't mind betting on. Osa has him 6/7/5, my scout is similar at 6/6/6. 6'4 LHP with a high work ethic should fit into the nice group of young arms in developing. Adding him and Rushin through the first two rounds is encouraging. The talent level in our minor league levels continues to grow.

I haven't figured out our big league club just yet. We haven't hit yet, mainly because I haven't figured out a lineup balance that I like, our starters have been okay, but we find ourselves in first place at this point. The bullpen is outrageous, and we will welcome back RJ Green here this month. It's comforting to know that we've got the needed depth with arms in the pen, so if we're able to figure out the other parts of the squad we should be good for another quick postseason appearance.
