    • If Team Option is used the Buyout must be the difference between Option year and highest Guaranteed year.
    • Only one Team Option may be used per contract, and it must be in the last year of the contract. This prevents people from stacking Player Options after the Team Option.
    • Players cannot be signed to contract extensions until after they have received their second arbitration contract. Players become eligible for contract extensions once they have two "Received a 1-year contract worth a total of $xx through arbitration." in their player history

More gaming the game. Pat likes to offer everyone Minor League Contracts in hopes that one person won't get an offer and will sign with his team. Been doing it for years.

I could write a book on his OOTP tricks.

I thought that might be the case since he probably has little money to spend.

I fail to see how that's a "trick."

Aging MLB players who get passed up in Free-Agency routinely take minor league deals in hopes of latching on to a MLB team with a good showing, often in Spring Training.

In the BLB just last off-season, in April, I signed such a player in OF Izzy Briseno. I think his asking price was $8M to start the off-season and I doubt anyone even offered $280k.

And Carlos is the only author in the BLB.

Do you think this would have a better chance of working towards the end of FA?

Agreed! It's how I sign most of my free agents. Throw out 'see if he takes offers' and see what happens.

Veteran FA's signing minor league deals is completely benign...in the last few years I can recall the Orioles doing it with Johan Santana, Pedro Alvarez, Michael Bourn, and Paul Janish.

Its still within the rules. Aren't people not taking players off the IR right now cuz they are short roster space? (A rule that doesn't always get enforced in the offseason)

Making a minor league or low ball offer rarely works. Its alot like dating, hit on 100, 25 are slutty, find the drunk 5.........
