  • I'm ready to select once the trade is entered. It's not popping up as the most recent post so I'm slightly concerned it won't be seen, but, as soon as the pick is switched over I'm good to select.

Moved to Pitt. Gotta figure out how to operated Brad's cool pick spreadsheet for the other ones.

        • 6.21 and 6.23, Maine and Baltimore, took the #1 and #2 guys on my board with 2B Rene and SS (CF) Bates.

          • Really excited to add Gil Romeo here in the 6th round. I think I made an offer on 5 or 6 picks before Rob said yes. My scout has him as 5/6/6/6/5 POT, and OSA likes him to a degree of 5/6/6/2/6. I still somehow have about 21 guys left on my board, so with my final 5 picks I hope I can still get the guys sitting at the top, but right now, Laird, Dunn, Morrow, Krantz, Menton, Zamora and Romeo...man, I'm thrilled to add this talent to the system

            • Washington is working off of my draft list. Not that you can get worked up about the last pick in the 6th round, but Moran at that spot and Feola at the end of the fourth were both targets of mine.

I'm very excited to see how the new rating system adds a bit of life to the end of the draft. Its not a pain to sift through everyone in draft as my scout likes a lot of guys with decent stats to match. Even if the guys don't pan out, I don't feel like I'm grasping at straws.

                • The end of the 6th ravaged my big board.

Ended up going with CF Tommy Catchings (great name for a CF). OSA thinks this guy won't be able to hit above Single-A and his intangibles couldn't be much worse. But my scout has him 54654, he won the 2022 Glove Award, 8 running speed and was ranked 23rd on the Draft List. Could definitely be a huge bust but in the 7th round, I'll take a risk.

I was hoping both him and Cerverny(sp) would slip to the 7th. I was going to go for them there.

                    • Catchings had been high on my scout's list for while, but I'm not sure he'll ever hit well enough, so I stayed away. I've got several guys like that in my system already that can play CF pretty well but have questionable bats, so I didn't feel like grabbing another. Combined with the Very Low WE/Intelligence combo. But, he's probably worth a shot here, my scout seems to like him pretty well. I did like Cerveny a bit more from players in that mold, you grabbed him just before I had a chance to pull the trigger.

I'm sure most teams were familiar with Catchings. When going through the draft list and seeing him that high I immediately thought, "he's not going to be on my draft board with those intangibles/lack of hitting potential, let him be another teams problem." I figured someone would see his defense and high draft list and make him a 3rd or 4th round pick (probably in a draft not this deep). After my top five guys went quickly at the end of round 6, I figured, Catchings was worth a 7th.

                        • How in the hell can you play ball at Stanford and have low intelligence?

I'm glad to hear that someone is on the same page here. I think both guys are solid value where I got them, so with some luck maybe I'll get a decent starter out of at least one of them.

To recap the last three Washington selections:

4.26 - 2B Tom Feola - Looks like a solid second base prospect to me. Two good years at CSF. Not going to hit it out of the park too often, but I think he can have some decent contact numbers and be a nice gap hitter. Should also be a pretty good fielder at 2B, though he lacks versatility to move around too much. Reminds me a bit of Jayden Miles, a guy I picked a few seasons ago who's now in Montreal.

5.26 - P Colin Norberg - High school reliever. He has a third pitch, but it's almost certainly not good enough to be able to start. But my scout and OSA are high on his stuff and movement abilities and he's put up big strikeout numbers in his HS career. He's also put up some big walk numbers, so that's got to get better. 6-6-5 right now, according to OSA, but I think the stuff projects really well.

6.26 - OF Alexis Moran - Hit .326 with nearly a 1.000 OPS this year for Texas. My scout thinks he has the potential to be an average to slightly above average hitter, with no glaring weakness at the plate (though no huge strength either). OSA gives him a 6-7-7 defensive rating, so he should be able to handle any OF position even if he won't be elite in CF going forward.
