2022 Regular Season SIM 5 Complete - Next SIM Monday 7/10
2-3 and an already shitty team is having players drop like flies. And my best pitching prospect drops for 14 months with Tommy Johns Surgery, and my top pick goes down too.
Keep hearing about Intl players since the version change. Here is some simple truths about this version:
** Year to year variation versus the ratings have increased
** Top prospect pitchers tend to bomb more or are less likely to dominate
** Contact of "5" really means 4 in a bunch of cases. Have to read what your scout says
** Relief pitchers tend to more and more to be failed starters. Like real life its year to year with these bums.
** All draft look alot better, but as you draft them the upside seems to diminish
** Intl players have changed the way we have to think about managing money. You can almost call it "payroll tanking"
and next version.....some things I'm sure will change again.
Point is...its changed for all of us. I respect Delandis (and Pat) for adapting. Hell Pat and I have talked and whats under the hood aint what it use to mean. He's been frustrated as many of us veterans have been.
So why bitch about it? We are all swimming in the same pool.

Because Delandis peed in it.
And then I shit in it. Which is really hard to do under water, if you've ever tried.

Bad time to give up 1st round picks for the next 3 years and trust in the players that gave me 2 rings... We suck in this version... I might have to start thinking in tanking the thingy...

Maybe I didn't get to enjoy the old version as long, but I like the new version. There seem to be more unknowns in the draft and with regards to development. I think that makes it more realistic... more frustrating perhaps... but more inline with how baseball actually works.

The Sim: 6-1 week! 1-1 @ Baltimore, 2-0 @ Batavia, 3-0 vs. Carolina - This is the best week we have had since 2019. Maybe even 2018.
The Good: Andy Ulloa, maybe you have heard of him? He hit four more home runs this week. I know he's been a huge topic of discussion on the forum and the chat lately...but something crazy to consider.... I think he is the best hitter I have ever had as a GM. I'm talking about even in my DC days.
The Bad: Catcher Ted Sandy was ranked as the 8th best at his position to start the year coming off a 3.3 WAR season and back to back DWIs. This year he's hitting just .141 with a .382 OPS and -0.2 WAR.
The Ugly: Infielder C.J. McNichol, my #2 hitter, went 0-25 this week. Not....good.
Next Week: 3 vs. Batavia, 3 @ Philadelphia - Seattle now sits 3 games back of Phoenix and +1 of Davenport for the #3 Wild Card seed.

Between Balt and Sea the IFAs have destroyed the IL. If I would have known superstars were just going to appear out of thin air I never would have signed Stark or a few others.
Yeah it's gotten a bit crazy the last few years. Some of these guys are once in a generation talents are just popping up every offseason. I've unfortunately never been able to splurge on the big talent but have dipped my feet into the lower tier IFAs.
It was nicer in the past when massive talents like Fuji came about because it was so rare in the IFA pool- the last few years we've had Roman, Park, Dominguez, Carrasco, Rosaro, Ulloa. I think the fairness issue arises on another aspect of this- I guarantee if owners knew Ulloa was going to be available they would have started clearing out salary last season for him.
In the end, not my favorite change in this version personally because of the weird imbalances it creates but I guess everybody deals with it so not a fairness issue. It definitely changes competitive balance IMHO in a manner beyond anything in previous versions of the game.
There's so much variation in scouting the amateur draft now and virtually none with the IFA. It's like they have popped in fully developed with "bustability" that appears so far to not match other player mechanics in the game.
Either way, it's become pretty obvious there is next to no risk signing these big name IFAs outside investing $30-45m a year in one player. Not because they will "bust" but because they will take up such a huge part of your payroll for years.

Pat and I didn't "know" these guys would be available. Truthfully, no one "knows" who is going to be available until FA is filed. There have more times than I can count where I expected someone to be available for FA only to see him signed in the final week before arbitration. Are we going to ban that too? Where was the outrage when I didn't have the money to match Oto's or Reeves' contracts? I wasn't sure either of them would be available until they filed for FA which is the same time guys like Ulloa and Dominguez appear available.
I think our reference point is wrong when we act like the game is broken because there are actually good young players in FA. I'd argue that the game was broken when there WEREN'T any. Now that they are available, AND available to all through FA I might add, we are complaining about it? Again, I really can't believe this is an actual issue.
