    • Players cannot be signed to contract extensions until after they have received their second arbitration contract. Players become eligible for contract extensions once they have two "Received a 1-year contract worth a total of $xx through arbitration." in their player history.

We should work together as a league to make sure Seattle doesn't get bailed out of that contract when he's 35.

That list of retired players is REALLY something.

Ethan Romey, Zach henne, Tom Grifiths, Jamie Monson, Dave Slack, Andy garcia, rosema, acre, Diaz.....Churchill, Schubert....

            wow

When Uloa is 35, he'll have a team option coming up and then an arbitration figure.

You mention Ethan Romey and William Diaz, but not Fernando Hernandez, the greatest of pitchers???

I thought I read a post about his career ending last year?

Well, sure, but some of the guys you mentioned explicitly ended their actual careers years ago, too!

During Free-Agency I had offers (most of which were favored/more than they signed for) on: C Tom Farber, SP Adrian Pulido, P J.D. Robillard, OF Antonio Ontiveros, OF Jimmy Peller and CL Johnny Bednacryk. I'm a fan of these signings and if Seattle was a true contender in 2022, I think most would be playing for the Pilots this season.

However... after having my Nieto offer blown out of the water by Indy and my late decision to go after Ulloa, I pulled all those offers to fit the two big IFAs under our budget. I know I overpaid for both. Nieto getting $84M and Ulloa $64 just in the first two years is absurd, but after 2023 I think the contracts become quite reasonable....if they live up to the hype. Hopefully by 2024, our budget has increased and our youngsters have developed and we can contend with the best in the BLB.

Denver signs Dusty Filar to a three year deal.

I've long coveted this guy since he was in California but no matter how much Paul hated him for not hitting enough homeruns, he would never budge on moving him to the Mile High.

Filar auditioned my theory of his performance in Rocky Top while playing in Baltimore. I think we will finally be a bit more of a home run threat this season.

I wanted Ulloa - I had the big offer after FA1 for him, but that was quickly outdone by Seattle. Can't really do too much when they can throw so much money at him in the next couple years. I made a counter offer this sim, though it really wasn't more money than what he had already been offered, just a different structure. I didn't figure it would be enough, and obviously it wasn't.

I like Ulloa a lot. I think he can be one of the best hitters in the league, up there with Owens, Frederick, Gosser, etc. So, based on the money those guys are making (or soon will be), Ulloa's contract isn't really that unreasonable, after the first two years. Unfortunately I just couldn't go quite as high as Seattle and he's not a Bat.

I did manage to sign two players. Ed Johnstone will slot in nicely in my pitching staff, fighting for the last spot in the rotation - or more likely in the bullpen where I think he can be very good. Jimmy Peller gives me a right-handed option in the outfield with the ability to play all 3 OF spots at a decent level. Not too exciting, but I think it's solid depth.

                              Me too.

I signed Edwin Garcia, a relief pitcher from this crop of international players entering the league.

I came away a little surprised at the low price tag. He rates 8/5/5 versus right-handed hitters and a still good 7/5/5 against left-handers.

He throws in the upper 90s.

Maybe he ends up being a greedy son of a bitch who isn't good. For about $2.5 million a year, I thought it was worth seeing what he can do.
