But at the same time if there was a guy you REALLY like it made you bid like a drunken sailor.

I think Z makes a decent point where the excitement after the first 2-3 sims dies down. This does add suspense for the teams on the big spending spree's. If you being conservative in free agency then maybe not so much. Strategy just a little different is all.

I will say generally though in almost all sports there are BIGTIME signings within the first 2-3 days of free agency. Little surprised were not seeing that right now. Some knucklehead always offers something over the top. Year to year variation I suppose.

I think if teams made the offers they are going to make this sim from the start, we might have seen players sign.

Nieto is at $240M. I think if that was opening sim offer, he would have signed because it probably blew out most other offers by $50M.

        Holy shnikes!
Someone must be offering Nieto a lot of jack. His AAV went from $16M to nearly $30M since the last sim.

Next year might be a better test of how things will work. This offseason looks unique in that for the first time since probably 1999, the two clear prizes of free agency are international players whose true value is difficult to gauge. We're all adjusting to the new sim schedule while trying to ascertain who these two players are.

I still think it's silly how many premium players we're getting in IFA. I don't mind seeing the older players like Ulloa or raw prospects like Sepulveda last year but it's stupid to see guys like Nieto every year.

I see it differently. I can't name a good, young international hitter in recent years. Nieto looks to me like he is easily the best young international position player to enter the BLB since Fujii almost 25 seasons ago.

How many international hitters since Fujii have made even one All-Star Game? The only one I can name is the catcher Rang, who made one and maybe could have made a few more.

Throw in the older but in his prime Uloa, and we might have two All-Star hitters.

This situation looks very unique to me.

Nieto may be unique but we're seeing 2-3 stars in IFA every year now which is too many in my opinion. They should be few and far between.

EDIT - Also, Garcia??? May not have made the all-star team but he hit 38 HR's this year and is only 27.

I haven't been here long enough to gauge, but is this possibly anomalous? Dominguez/Carrasco and Roman/Rosaro coming in two consecutive years is pretty crazy.

It's anomalous in the sense it hasn't happened over the league's entire history but it directly correlates to the conversion to OOTP 17. We converted at the end of the 2019 season. Since then...

                    2019 - Dominguez
                    2019 - Carrasco
                    2019 - Garcia
                    2020 - Sepulveda
                    2020 - Roman
                    2020 - Rosaro
                    2020 - Park
                    2021 - Ulloa
                    2021 - Nieto

Settlers of Catan? We need another player for that.

I was mentally thinking of Garcia as more of a veteran than a young player, given he came over at 26.

Fujii was like 21, which is Nieto's age. There's a pretty big difference there. And it's reflected in the fact that Fujii got $200 million and Nieto will get at least $240 million, while Garcia signed for $86 million.

Your point is well-taken. It is something we should be keeping an eye on. I'm just also excited at finally seeing a potential young star hitter come into the league through international free agency again.

Hard to say how much is the change to OOTP 17.

I'd prefer IFAs turned off... but that would never pass, so I play the game.

I don't like them because I believe they are coming in with 17s new ratings (very high) but have less of a chance to bust since they are fully developed.

Allow the teams with thousands of $ to spend to kill each other for 1 or 2 players... I like the way it is now. Make the things even.

Maybe we'd be better off with the international amateur free agents instead of the veteran ones.
