That's a solid blueprint... And you haven't even really bottomed out 51-67 with a tonne of great draft picks! Well done!

I had something like fifteen 1st and 2nd round picks over 4 seasons at the turn of the century. It turned into a great decade and a half run.
      I remember this.

Amazing how long ago that was.

That's what I'm hoping to do. I've had two 1sts in 2 of the last 3 drafts but now I'm greedy and insatiable.

I would even argue against us tanking too.

We went downhill from 89 wins for 3 years, bottoming out at 45 wins in 2000. We then went 75 and 80 wins...then 85 and haven't had a losing season since.

But my god, is he the worst base stealer I've ever seen.

At UCLA, he stole six bases in 11 attempts. That's a really bad rate. It only gets worse from there.

At single-A Barre, he stole four bases in ten attempts.

At double-A Bar Harbor, he nabbed six bases in 18 tries.

And at triple-A Portsmouth, he stole successfully three times in 15 attempts.

He has seven speed and supposedly rates a five at stealing bases ... but I don't see how.
Does his crap Baserunning Instinct play into steals? I've never looked into that, but it's pretty clear he has little idea what to do on the basepaths in general, so maybe it has a slight effect on the calculations when he steals.

Tanks only work if you strike while the iron is hot and your willing to move players in they're primes. Basically you were done with Clay's antics and had some very very nice chips to trade off so you got max value. I saw what you did back then I basically did the same in 05. It works, you just need to hit your picks which I think in todays game is SO MUCH HARDER. The draft isn't as black and white today least its my opinion. More and more you see 6, 7, 8 rounder crack the top 100.

Mwetts had one the greatest farm builds in the history of our game. His prospects never seemed to end. Didn't he hit like 320pts once for his system??

This game makes no sense sometimes. I wish there was a little more correlation of ratings...like I have Gordie Joiner in the minors who has 8 speed but 4 outfield range.

For my own peace of mind, I've always read that type of scenario to mean the player defensively doesn't take efficient routes, gets bad reads, slow reaction times, etc., but has top end straight-line speed.

                        Same.

I don't think if you put Usain Bolt in CF you'd get good results.

Delino Deshields Jr. is a perfect example. Watch a few Ranger games and see how many balls fall in for hits around him because of false first steps, bad angles, etc. Then watch him get down the 1st baseline faster than a human should be able to do so.
