I've never attempted to measure it directly but I mentioned a while ago in a little veteran pointer thread that IMO, morale is the single biggest key to winning (outside of talent of course). The manual explicitly states that personality traits effect the play of the player and teammates.

Again just my opinion but, I think what we are seeing now as far as DVS, Seattle and others struggling has a lot more to do with the talent disparity among GMs being a lot smaller than in years past.

Then we'll just all say you only won because of the team you inherited.

I don't fully get the DV struggle least with the bats. Once again though version changed shifted the pitchers alot. Todays 5-5-6, 5-6-5, 6-5-5 pitchers arent the pitchers of old. Today they are back end starters or complete junk. This wasn't the case versions ago. Back then these were 4,3 mid rotation and even a few #2's. Yes there were headcases also, but they were way fewer inbetween.

Bullpen is really a crapshoot today especially with the seemingly emergence of the failed starter (Carlos called this a few versions ago).

If I had to guess, UMD just traded maybe a front line starter or two too many and thinking plug and play with the younger 6-6-5, 5-6-6 starters thinking he'd get the same result?? Its not a diss at all. He's been playing this game a long time and have enjoyed watching him rotating in young pitchers and not skipping a beat.

This version has caused some head scratching so far. Luckily for us were in rebuild (well sort of) and been spending time re-teaching myself the nuisances of things again.

I STILL don't know what the hell makes a top hitting prospect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've noticed this as well since I've been back.

Shit, I'm pretty sure Akira Abe was 5/7/5 during his prime.

Awful is when you pay solid starters salary, to your last 5 years solid starters, who won 2 Brewmasters for Dallas, and they play like Dave Grafing before to go to Pawtucket.... That is awful.... Holly cow!!!

Imagine how you'd feel if you let Tom Driggs leave before he developed.

Yeah..the days of just slapping a 5-6-5 starter at 3, 4 and just assuming he is gonna rock are over. Got to think a bit more (or actually read the report a little which I'm lazy and probably makes me screwed)

We have two things happening here:

                            1. We don't play with stars. I like that we don't. Half my leagues don't and I happen to enjoy those two leagues the most (yes, BLB is one of the two. You guys rock!)

But this is an important note to make because in the leagues that have stars, I can tell you this: players have their stars change frequently at a young age and sometimes it happens with no reason given whatsoever. I've seen 5 star guys go down to 3 and then become 5 stars again later on. It's tougher when you see a 3 star go to 1 star and then to a 2 star. The opposite happens too. I've seen 2 star guys jump to 4 stars. Those really hurt because you think you've got a superstar in your hands and then a year later, they are back to 2 stars and you're like, wtf?

So I think these shifts are happening in the backend but we don't see them because we turned off those notifications. Our only hint at them is the OSA Top 100 because it's dynamic and we watch our guys go from Top 20 to off the list within a season.

                            2. Markus changed the way the draft and evaluation works. There were a lot of complaints across leagues (again, as a guy in 4 of them, I heard every complaint Jistic made here at least three other times from the Jistic's of those other leagues. And yes, every league has a Jistic. I miss that guy).

Anyway there were a lot of complaints that after the 2nd or 3rd round, the draft was boring. Too many 1 star players. Too much minor league filler. So Markus made an adjustment. He changed the draft to have a deeper pool of potentially good players because, his words, that's how scouts see the draft in real life (and he isn't wrong).

But that also increased the boom or bust ratio. Or it actually didn't. It's just that it's more prevalent now because the ratings are lying to us before they tell us the truth about a player.

I think the drafts are going to look even better in one or two years? When did we switch again? It's almost time that we start seeing guys created in OOTP 17, no?

I definitely miscalculated but the morale thing is my current issue. It's really making any kind of turnaround impossible. I also didn't expect 4 starters who have had ERAs in the range of 3.50-4.25 to all be over 6.

Add in the career low batting averages despite ok ratings and I'm kind of not sure what the deal is.

It is what it is though. I've had a good run so maybe it's time to tank 3-5 seasons for the superstars and multiple high picks you need to win across 2-3 drafts.

My traditional way obviously isn't working. I guess I just prefer more specific info to less and there's virtually no specific info available for morale other than one line of text in the player screen, the intangibles cards, reading each individual player's morale, random emails and the coaches relationship tab.

For a feature that appears so important I just wish I had more info.
