4-2 sim....first winning sim since July!
Series at Batavia
-Won 10-5, lost 0-5, won 8-1
Series at Carolina
-Lost 5-6, giving up 4 runs in the bottom of the ninth. Won 7-6, after my new closer blows the game in the bottom of the 9th giving up a run, then my team scores 2 in the top of the 10th, then my closer ALMOST blows the game again giving up 1 run in the bottom of the 10th stranding runners on 1st and 2nd. Then won 6-3.
The Good
-A bunch of hitters really stepped up this sim, especially with some of my "studs" struggling. Syracuse cast-off 3B Florentino Corulla won IL player of the week. This sim he went 9/23, with a 1.136 OPS. Rookie OF Oscar Paulet went 5/16 with 3 HRs and 8 RBI. And struggling OF Steve Bing went 5/8 scoring 4 runs, 8 RBI, and 1 SB.
-My bullpen was surprisingly good. Well, let me rephrase that. My middle relief was. 16 IP no ER. Amazing.
The Bad
-My 4th attempt at a closer has failed. George Neilly played in three games, and gave up 6 ER. He has never been a guy with control problems, ever, and all of a sudden he can't get the ball across the plate. He walked 8 batters in 3 IP. Prior to this sim he had walked 22 in 40. And last year, just 50 in 140. He had back-to-back games where he walked 4 batters. How is that possible? I guess he just doesn't have closer mentality?! Closer attempt #5 is coming to a sim near you!
-All-Star catcher Jerry Fortin went 1/18 this sim. 1B Keita Uchiyama went 5/23. RA Grounds went 7/29. Those are my three best hitters on the season.
The Ugly
-Recently added OF Arturo Arrigon made his return to the Bats debut by coming in to pinch hit late in a game against Carolina. After watching three straight balls, he manages to strike out on the next three straight pitches. Well done sir.
This Week
-Seven game homestand. Three vs. Wilmington, four vs. Virginia. If I get swept by Wilmington, it puts them right back in the Stout hunt. If i sweep them, their season is over. Big week.Wilmington Wildcats- 2057-

I think I over analyze this game way too much. Streaks, people playing better, people playing worse...it's all in my mind. Probability in the end just takes over. It's like playing craps...it doesn't matter because in the end you are always going to lose.
2-4 sim...49-80 overall.
The Good:
Hanson: .304 with 2 HR's, 7 RBI's
Kingsbury: .391 with 2 HR's, 5 RBI's
Finbow: 2 more HR's
As I wrote in my team award page these guys have to be two the best signings in the history of the BLB.
The Bad:
My pitching staff in general. A 6.06 ERA for the sim. 35 earned runs in six games.
Cam Mills..WTF: 0-2 with a 24.75 ERA. His ERA jumped a whole point to 3.94. Four earned runs in .1 inning pitched on 8/20/84.
Overall:
I guess you can only do so much with the other teams castoffs.

A strong 5-1 sim with our only loss coming against Aurillo. The frustrating thing is that we are still a solid 4 games back.
BIG stretch coming up with 3 in CHI, 4 in DAV and 2 more in CHI (?). Anyway, we probably won't be 4 back after the next sim +.BLB

I actually have real work to do this morning... so I wanted to shove in a quick take this AM... I'll steal McCrotch's pseudo format...
3-3 SIM (2-1 v Carolina / 1-2 v Philly)
The GOOD
-- Despite the record, my pitching was OUT-MINKYFINKIN'-STANDING this sim. We walked 7 batters in 54 innings and checked in with a remarkable 1.02 WHIP for this sim. That's unheard of from this team.
-- Delmar Oyos pitched two gems this week... losing a 2-1 decision to Carolina... then outdueling Joe Aurillo in our only win against Philly
-- Martin Carlton appeared in 3 games (3.0 innings) allowing 1 hit and notching all 3 saves.
-- Wilton Harcourt hit two bombs in one game v Carolina to pull back out in front in the HR race with 30 on the season. With two more long balls, he'll break Danny Nelson's Virginia record for HR's in a season. I think many voters in the IL Stout Slugger race are going to end up having to lay Harcourt and Dani Alvarez side-by-side and really analyze the numbers. That's not to say they are the only two in the race, but it's a really interesting comparison.
The BAD
-- 18 runs in 6 games is just not enough in this league. We were lucky to get the good pitching this week because the bats just weren't there. Guys got on base... but we just couldn't get any sustained rallies going.
-- Joshua Poling fell back to Earth a little with a .217 week where he drew 0 walks
The UGLY
-- Nate Magness - Injury - Dead Arm Syndrome -- Short injury, but this kid's start will be scattered the rest of the year. I still feel good about the season despite his numbers... but the injuries have been a concern.
This Week:
Huge week staying in Division. If I really have intentions of climbing out of the Stout basement, it likely starts this SIM.The Great One!
To many rings to count...
