  • Let's Talk Awards...

It's Monday, and we need something to talk about....

    DL

SS - My feeling is this award could come down to which team actually wins the Lager. Sato and Keppel are both having outstanding seasons.
    My Pick - Keppel

Pale Ale - Gil O'Moore is a lock at this point.
    My Pick - O'Moore

New Brew - Despite only have 67 games played at this point, my vote would go to Zamora. He could cool off, but this numbers right now are insane. 26 doubles and 11 triples.
    My Pick - Zamora

    IL

SS - This should be an interesting one. Latham has cooled off considerably. Woodbury is hurt. Robbins, too. Campoveroe and Alvarez will get some consideration, and steal votes from each other. Kirby and Harcourt could be in the mix as well.
    My Pick - Campoveroe

Pale Ale - Chavarraga and Aurillo are the frontrunners right now. Theodore and Parangao can still sneak into it.
    My Pick - Chavarraga

New Brew - Alvarez has to be the favorite right now.
    My pick - Alvarez

unless i can get another guy to lead off in my lineup (which might happen next year) i think this will be keppel's award to lose for awhile. sato just can't put up the gaudy numbers needed to get the vote from the leadoff spot.

I think there are 3 LOCKS, in my opinion, at this point....

        DL Pale Ale = O'Moore
IL Refreshing New Brew = Alvarez
        J. Allen Wright = Dallas

The other ones I have to think about.

I'd have to agree with those three. They should be landslides.

He's pretty good, but I'd still take Keppel over him.

I don't see why WC won't come into the discussion for the J. Allen Wright. They play in a tougher division and they hardly missed a beat after losing all of those FAs. I didn't expect to have to worry about them for at least a couple more seasons.

I think they'll be in the discussion... just as I think Maine and Pitt should be for their great seasons... I think Baltimore's revival from last season is noteworthy (though I think last year's team was the anomoly, not this year).... HELL... Morgantown was in the talks for a long time... I just think Dallas is running away with their division with a linup full of homegrown talent... they've built a really solid pitching staff.... AND they're doing it with 1/4 of their payroll sitting on the DL for the entire season in Samarrano.

I'd give Buzzell and EG looks for DL Stout Slugger...keep in mind that EG missed the month of April.

This is going to be the toughest one to pick. I agree those are the horses left in the race, Latham, Campoveroe, Alvarez, Kirby, and Harcourt. I also think Washington's Jerry Fortin deserves consideration.

                      -2nd in OPS (behind Robbins)
                      -2nd in SLG (behind Robbins)
                      -3rd in OBP
-4th in VORP (despite the fact he plays catcher every game, and doesn't get nearly the ABs everyone else does)
-3rd in runs created per 27 outs
-2nd in isolated power (behind Robbins)
                      -2nd in HRs

His RBI #s are not the best, but that isn't really his fault. I don't think he deserves to win the award, not unless he really goes on a surge the rest of the way, but he might be worthy of 2nd or 3rd.

As far as my pick for SS, it has to be Campoveroe. I always forget how good that guy is, because he seems like he always ends up on the DL. This season he has walked 87 times. He has struck out just 13 times! Compare that to the other sluggers, Fortin (74/72), Harcourt (75/79), Latham (48/67), Kirby (49/71), Alveraz (30/101). I think he has to be the favorite.

                      Seattle Pilots- 2017-2041

                        Ok... so maybe 2nd place?

I'm pretty sure Donegan should get a little bit of consideration. .324/26/92 with 24 SB's, 61.5 VORP on close to the worst hitting team in the league is pretty impressive.

Yeah, he should definately be ahead of Sato on everyone's ballot except for Clay's, who loves those little slap hitters. Unfortunately for Donegan, many of us already pre-marked our 1984 vote for the Harry Keppel Silver Slugger Award when we did our ballots last year.
