I thought for sure that guy would be a clean up hitter for life after his breakout rookie year, but now... I'm just wondering when he'll put it all back together.
I actually tried to put together a package deal with Melgoza, some high draft picks and a couple prospects for Keppel but it didn't end up panning out.Dallas Snappers

The Gremades thing is funny. He's great player that will likely always be in the shadow of Keppel. It's baseball.
Unfortunately, and you might want to get use to this idea now.... you're far better off with the Gramedes thing being your "schtick" then getting the "sensitive" one. Plus, I have a bunch of 19.2 baud modem jokes lined up for after you move.

Not only is this thread full of laughs....it's a good time to bump...let's talk awards! (Probable top fives at this point...don't have the game handy for rookies though...)
DL
Stout Slugger - Teagan Cannell (SYR), Harry Keppell (HYU), Norm Seltzer (DEN), Jose Guzman (DAL), Everardo Gremades (IND), Pete Hampton (PIT)
Pale Ale - Tino Suarez (MAI), Gil O'Moore (MAI), Teagan Corrigan (MAI), Denver Brode (DAL), Mac Avery (IND)
Last Call - Adrian Diaz (DAL), Jerry Kraft (LOS), Eric McCoy (MIS), Hernando Ortiz (MAI), Casimiro Cabezas (SYR)
IL
Stout Slugger - Mel Woodbury (VIR), Pat Washington (BAL), Dani Aleveraz (WIL), Amistad Caballero (BAL), Jarred Good (CAL)
Pale Ale - Conan Wilkerson (CAL), Martin Carlton (WAS), Joe Aurillo (PHI), Russ McEvoy (WAS), Joe Toapanta (CAL)
Last Call - Ken Bayer (BAT), Joe Alveraz (PHI), Ivan Perez (VIR), Roman Magueu (CAL), Grant Lewis (WAS)
J. Allen Wright - A lot of options here. Clay will be the first to tell you that he won the off-season...Have to be impressed with Denver going from 3rd to 1st....Maine remains dominant...Spear took over a rebuilding team and has them in the hunt...Linty lost his MVP and is in 1st...Brad has made a lot of moves to keep his team competitive...The Clown is looking for a DL repeat....Spectre (this time all on his own) has his team in 1st...even though the division is weak, that Washington club is pretty impressive as well.
---
So what do you guys think? We got about a month left of baseball...Any darkhorses making a run? Who are the favorites? Who is a rookie that is doing good?
Pretty ridiculous that the potential top three vote getters for the DL Pale Ale will probably all be from the same team. I think the "Checkmate" vs. "Eager Beaver" battle will come down to the final day. Also, it seems like there are a lot of award contenders, and some favorites, from non-contending teams.Last edited by Pat; 01-21-2010, 02:20 PM.Wilmington Wildcats- 2057-

As far as the IL rookie race goes I don't think there's really much of a choice there. It would seem Jarred Good is heads and shoulders above any other rookie right now.
He had all of 45 ABs above the AA level coming into this year (Last year: 27 at AAA and 18 in the show) and is putting up a phenomenal year. It didn't even take him any time to get accustomed to ML pitching, he hit the ground running (.323 | .356 | .434 in April). His worst month was May and he still hit .293 with an OPS of .751 that month. Good stuff.Philly Freedom

In the DL rookie race, you have Finley Kinsey, Hector Hernandez and Alex Rodriguez.
Kinsley: It took him long enough to make it to the BLB (he's 25 and 5 years in the minors), but he's certainly making a name for himself in Hyuandai. The guy can't field at all, so he's an unusual case of a very young DH, but his numbers speak for themselves: .317 | .386 | .559 | .945 | 25 HR | 79 RBI | 82 R | 50 XBH
Arod: He would have been closer to the top spot, but he missed more than a month due to injury. He's still putting together a fine season. Unfortunately he can't field either (17 errors in 98 games).
Hernandez: Also bitten by the injury bug, but the kid already has 102 RBI and 92 runs scored. His time off (4-5 weeks) could end up costing him a few votes, but if he can come back and finish strong I can see him picking up a few 1st place votes and a lot of 2nds.Philly Freedom

I really haven't dug too much into the DL, though I know I've been impressed by Teagan Cannell.
In the IL, I think Woodbury makes a good case for the Stout Slugger if the season ended today, but I really think that there are 4 or 5 guys who could take it away with a good September. I think Alvarez, Washington and Woodbury would be my 'favorites' right now.
Pale Ale... I would have to agree with Smear... it's Wilkerson and Carlton... and Carlton would get my vote if the season ended today.
Last Call is tough again this season. I'll need to dig deeper.
Rookie is probably Good... though I think "The Carpenter" could at least cut into his lead with an explosive September. My two Rookies - Collins and Phillips had decent seasons, but not ballot worthy.
J Allen Wright... I'd like to say it's Me... I feel somewhat vindicated about my drafting skills when there are now guys all over the BLB that I drafted becoming Major Leaguers... however... don't think I could vote for me because my team is probably underachieving for their talent despite being in the Wildcard Race. Don't get me wrong, I feel good about my season considering the injuries and my baby Pitching staff... but... if the voting was today I would have to begrudgingly vote for Diesel. His team got old, traded, dropped and sent packing, but they're still a juggernaut with mostly pieces he drafted/traded for early. However... like many other votes... still need to do some looking. The Great One!
To many rings to count...

I think Good is a lock...forgot he was a rookie. He may even get a share of votes for IL Stout Slugger if he isn't careful. I know, as far as 2nd or 3rd, that rookie pitcher for Wilmington is playing really well, but can't get any run support.
In the DL, I like Kinsey a lot. I think if Hernandez didn't go down, it'd be his. Could come down to the wire.Wilmington Wildcats- 2057-

Heh, I'm glad you noticed that. I'm assuming you're talking about Sanchez. He's been pretty good, but damn, his ERA was under 3 for the longest time and couldn't climb off two wins. Dave Carr has slipped lately, but he pitched well early on. Good gets my vote though, easily.
I like Carlton for Pale Ale. Amazing numbers. Batavia and MattG have impressed me with what they've done in a highly competitve division.
