All right, you're covered and I guess Clay is covered with the rain in Detroit. How about - my wife had to work yesterday and I like to laze around the house when she is gone - for me? If not, I guess I'll have to console myself that my team has been playing well the last few sims.

Danny Nelson will not be hitting Free Agency this off-season as we've agreed to terms on a new 3 year pact. His demands have ranged from under $5.0 to over $11.0 at various times in the season, with the two sides never quite being on the same page at the same time. The Colonials big sticking point on a new deal was getting some protection from Nelson's recent injury history. Reports out of Williamsburg say that the new pact will pay the '79 Refreshing New Brew around $8.0 per season with a rumored $1.5 clause in his contract if he has over 500 plate appearences.

Though the 25 year old native New Yorker has only fallen below 500 PAs once in his career, insiders believe that Virginia management is at least slightly concerned that Nelson's string of day-to-day knicks and bruises that seem to pop up each season, may eventually result in bigger stints on the DL.

For now, both sides are extrememly happy with the new deal.

In 1984, Danny Nelson has 20 HRs and 74 RBIs in 110 games and is hitting .330/.420/.571 with RISP.

I see he managed to become eligible for free agency at 25. You may regret that you didn't get a deal done for longer than 3 years.

Yet another of GIGGAS fine accomplishments in his brief but storied ownership in VA was signing Nelson to a longterm deal a week after calling him up. ****er.

He wasn't biting on something longer. I actually had a straight offer out to him at one point that wasn't incentive driven for like 5 years with an option on #6 at between $9.5 and $10.0. He didn't want to sign that long.

I'm fighting the same fight with Oyos right now... but he's still got arby years so we have room to negotiate.

Jose Sanchez might be pricing himself into being a Free Agent. I still have to crunch some numbers, but he hasn't been willing to take a home town discount and I'm not sure I can give him his asking price coming off a year long injury.

Good news for Pittsburgh and teams that have money to burn and need a SS.

Any good offensive minded 2B going to be available this offseason?

McHardy is OK... but I could do better.

Jose Sanchez is rated an '8' at 2B. If he hits FA, you should definitely sign him.

I at least have to lobby for him to leave the DL.

Tomas Cirlos plays 2nd and still plays well when he starts. I wish OOTP tracked that stat. Offensive stats as a starter. Anyway, he'll be out there... older (32) but a stop gap type player for a team still grooming in the farms.

I'd be all over Sanchez if I knew his ratings would hold up... and he wasn't/isn't asking for gaudy amounts of money.

Plus I really have no clue how to plug all the holes I have in the offense.

                          I'm putting out a line-up of:

                          C: Stapley .270/.335/.891, 11/38 VORP: 12.6
                          1B: Boyland (with California) .269/.381/.842, 2/5 VORP: 3.0
                          2B: McHardy .269/.362/.706, 1/28 VORP: 8.3
                          SS: Mendez .307/.337/.742, 1/27 VORP: 5.5
                          3B: Cullins .267/.326/.678, 5/52 VORP: 2.2
                          LF: Compress .268/.297/.645, 2/33 VORP: -3.6
                          CF: Viret .272/.325/.712, 1/23 VORP: 5.5
                          RF: Lanbin .286/.369/.845, 20/67 VORP: 26.1

                          Total VORP: 59.6

                          Bench:
                          C: Latham .248/.282/.593, 2/31 VORP: -8.6
                          1B: Gailan .228/.310/.666, 8/38 VORP: -5.6
                          SS: Ariago .207/.288/.560, 1/22 VORP: -7.7
                          LF: Gilbertson .251/.300/.650, 1/16 VORP: -3.1
                          RF: George .200/.254/.545, 2/9 VORP: -9.1

                          Bench VORP: -34.1

There are massive amounts of guys that alone will total a better VORP than my ENTIRE team. Obviously I'm counting on Shannon to step in next year at 1B and take off... but I don't think his ratings are progressed enough to the point where he'll be ready to dominate right off the bat. Still, I have NO power, and a bunch of average players. I guess that's the life of a below average franchise...

It's just extremely frustrating. I almost feel like it's better to tank with a team this bad so I can improve my draft stock... but that just puts me back a few more years as the picks won't be ready for years to come. No man's land absolutely sucks for a franchise.

I plan on getting involved in the Sanchez bidding just to push his asking price up.
