  • Class of 1984: Free Agents

So, looks like slim pickings this year... outside of the two Los Lunas studs that is.

Kind of sad to see Fonkert get resigned by Hyundai so quickly. I was going to offer him something along the lines of 8 million a year and hoped it would stick.

Screw that, he'll take the 17 million a year deal to stick around with a much better team.

Who you guys thinking will break the bank this offseason?

Any good steals out there on the market as well?

Those Los Lunas guys won't be FA's. I could resign them right now if I was handling that part of the team. They won't be out there.

No way... they're already way over budget as is...

I don't see anyway they can resign both.

      Maybe one, but not both.

So, I'm a liar now? I'm telling you it can be done.

I never called you a liar...

It's just, the financial report says they are 15 million in the hole... and both will be making upwards of 15-20 million a year... if not more.

How in the world could they afford that?

Jose Sanchez is about 50/50 right now. He's rejected my initial low ball offers to re-sign but I still have room to negotiate with him.

Hopefully his agent doesn't read the forums.

Dante Geake will be hitting FA, unless he decides he feels like signing for 1/7th of what he's asking. He's old, but I'd be willing to bet he's got a couple more quality seasons in him. He just doesn't fit into my plans for the future.

Danny Nelson and I have been going back and forth all year. He's a bitch!

No one is coming out of Hartford that's for sure. We'll probably be the youngest team in the league next year, and some of these guys are going to be locked up for a long time to come.

Very slim pickings. There are some decent SPs available, and some solid RPs, but they are all about 35+.

This might be one of the worst FA classes we have seen.

just like the one before, and the one before that, and the one before that.

Hmmmm... I should be pretty young too... Age on April 1, 1985....

My anticipated starting 8 will be....

                          C - Alberto Hearnando - 25
                          1B - Brian Greenham - 29
                          2B - Wilton Harcourt - 33

                          CF - Danny Nelson - 25
                          RF - Tim Murcott - 33

That isn't that young, is it?

I mean, the projected starting 8 for the Bats:

                            C - Fortin - 33
                            1B - Sierra - 30
                            2B - Grounds - 26
                            3B - Whiteley - 26
                            SS - Dynes - 29
                            LF - Paulet - 25
                            CF - Hogan - 32
                            RF - Nago - 21

                            Average age = 27.75

Just looking ahead, my team in 1986 might be the youngest starting 8 in the entire BLB.

No, I was just looking... but by 87 we'll be super young.... Murcott, Greenham and Harcourt (the three oldest) will all me gone and replaced by 3 players who are 18, 18 and 19 right now (Maeda, Branch and Rhodes)

                              At least on paper.
