And then... Andrew will be happy!

No more massive commish editing of the game... until it all begins again sometime in September.

        Winners and Losers so far?????

        ***

I think there are two HUGE winners right now...

I think Davenport is a no-brainer. They've improved on paper tremendously. They've paid the price here and there, but they have to be considered a serious contender now

The other one isn't as obvious...

I think Dallas is HUGE winner right now because (a) they really haven't made any panic moves and disrupted what's working and (b) Syracuse and Denver have both gone into full REBUILD and pretty much locked up the division for Dallas for the next 2 or 3 seasons. Dallas is playing really well... and they'll even get Samarano in the lineup before the playoffs start. Crazy.

Maine = loser so far. Dealba was a big acquisition but our problems are in the bullpen and we keep losing out on quality relievers.

Yeah, but Maine's starters are so good and you can always put your #4/#5 in the pen during the playoffs.

              If they make it.

I think Pittsburgh was a big winner as well.

I don't see a scenario where the loser of the Pitt/Maine race doesn't get the WC.

I hate to toot my own horn, but I think Syracuse could be considered a winner. The only piece it really hurt to lose is Kang. In return we've gotten a group of solid prospects, including a former top 50 guy in Boyd and a current top 20 guy in Carbajal. C Mark Jerome will probably be our starting C next year.

For next year, we'll need to fill two spots in our rotation. But with Zamora's success, I think you could make an argument that with him, Noah George, Frank Rancourt, and Maureo Gonez at first, we would have an above average infield, offensively and defensively. Our outfield could possibly include #8 prospect Justin Chewning next year, and if not, we'll still have Morgan, Halpern, and Parnell. Like I say, we need a couple arms to step up or come to Syracuse in FA, but I think we could be better than people think next year.

But.. Dallas is for real, and they definately should be the favorite for the next couple years.

I think you are for sure a BIG PICTURE winner... it's just with prospects.. especially with a pending move to OOTP 9.... prospects and old guys scare me.

OOTP 9... good point. Hadn't really thought about that, but I guess that shouldn't really be a factor. Maybe it should have been more of a thought. What happened when you guys went from 6 to 7/2008?

It broke Andrew's spirit to the point that he got married.

                              Winners and Losers Deadline thread

Thought I'd make a thread to keep all of the trade talk in one central place.

Obviously Davenport seems to be the big winner for the now, but who else has won with their deals... and who on the flip side has hurt their team with the trades they have made?

                              Loser: California

First off, trading a 3rd and 5th round pick for Tony Palencia and Paul Cloutier was STUPID. Cloutier is already back to AAA... and while Palencia hit .286 last week against LHP, if he doesn't keep it up, he'll be back in AAA with Cloutier.

Trading a 7th round pick for Xalbador Santos a SP from Pittsburgh who is coming off a season where he posted a VORP of 45.0 would not be a bad deal... it's a late pick, and even if Santos doesn't turn it around I wouldn't have wasted the trade... Too bad I could have had Santos for free! But I didn't see a PM to BLB Waivers. Was hoping the in-game claim would be enough... nope.

Trading an 8th round pick for Ron Boyland was a semi decent move on my part... but once again, I screwed things up as I now have too many guys for too few spots. Boyland, Cloutier, and Palencia all essentially offer the same thing. Bad move on my part.

I've also signed Jason Peyton as a SP... but I screwed that up by claiming Mack McMurdo another SP... Throw in Santos, and now I've three guys I wanted for the #5 spot in the rotation. That wouldn't be a problem of course if I just shipped two of them to AAA... but as luck would have it, they all have declined their move to AAA. Jackasses!

The only semi positive move I've made this deadline... is trading for MR Paul Scott from Syracuse... *I hope*. Currently I've got three RP's on my team that are under 25, and have positive VORP. Bing de-She (22), Wayne Smith (20) and Jake Fredrick (22). If Scott, who is only 24 can turn it around in the closers role, I'll have four guys, young, cost protected, and ready to man the bullpen for years to come. Throw in Guzma (21.0 VORP) and Valasque (13.1) and I think I might be building one of the finer bullpens in all of the IL.

Well that's it for the losers so far...

                              What do you guys think?
