  • The Co-Commissioner's Cup

Like the President's Trophy awarded annually in the NHL for the team with the best record during the regular season... as the Co-Commissioner of the BLB, I decided that I needed a trophy named after me. So, with the authority invested in my by Andrew... and because I didn't tell him I was going to do it.... I decided to name a new award after myself. Well, not a new award per se... just name an event.

So...from this point forward... the team with the WORST record in the BLB during the regular season will not only receive the #1 pick (non-expansion years), but also be bestowed with the Co-Commissioner's Cup!

Here is our current race for the CCC.

    Mississippi Storm - 37-68
    Batavia Muckdogs - 40-65
    Indianapolis Clowns - 42-63
    Pawtucket Patriots - 44-61
    California Kodiaks - 44-61
    Virginia Colonials - 45-60
    Syracuse Slammers - 46-59

The Storm seem to have a really nice stranglehold on the Cup right now... but don't count out the sliding Clowns and the upstart Muckdogs.

    Good luck to everyone!!

I seem to recall Clay saying Virginia and Indy were teams to watch this year...

Not sure if he meant in terms of being finalist for the Co-Commissioner's Cup.

I think he meant in terms of entertainment value...of watching them suffer.

I did say Indy was a team to watch.

Virginia I said would be better but likely would not contend for the WC. I'm right on both of those, we are definately better.

With the right deadline deals and some hard work, I think we can get back in this thing.

I am not sure any of those meager efforts really deserve this award unless someone goes on a real cold streak for the rest of the season. The winner in each of the past years since 1978 has had at least 111 losses and the average has been 115. Possibly you should include a minimum qualifying provision of 110 losses to ensure that it is not awarded to a slacker. In years in which no team reaches that total the team with the most losses will have be content with the first pick in the draft. No CCC for them.

Special mention here of the fine effort of the 1981 Cali team, which holds the all-time BLB record of 123 losses in a season.

That's odd... I just went to the 81 history page for the Wildfire, and it only has 103 starts listed in the pitching section... I'm guessing someone's history is missing?

And who could imagine a team that got 32 starts each from Delclos and Carpenter ever losing 123 games in a season?

123 losses is the DiMaggio's hitting streak of the BLB

It really isn't that bad of a team... you had Dardon, Truex and Duane Cullins who is a servicable BLB 3B... Roger Simonds as the closer... and Delclos and Carpenter manning the rotation. They had no reason to be as bad as they were.

I think this also proves how amazing a GM I am that I've turned around the mess as much as I have.

We probably all would have been ready to agree with that based upon your 1982 30 game improvement over 1981 but then came 1983 and 113 losses. That wouldn't have been so bad but you didn't even manage a CCC out of that year.

                          Well said...

108 loss minimum to qualify. 108 losses means 54 wins or exactly 1/3 of your games. If you're winning 1/3 of your games or less... you deserve it!

Any year where no team qualifies, the Co-Commissioner reserves the right to keep the cup at his house and let Kris Draper's kid take a dump in it.

                            83 was a weird year...

See Charlie O'Rogan's season if you want to know that the 83 Wildfire was a cursed team.

This years team with a bit of luck should pass the 69 win season I put up in 82.
