  • ANNOUNCEMENT: All-Star Game ('84)

BLB Headquarters (AP) -- A press conference was called early this morning for what was described as an enormous and dissappointing announcement. The BLB Board of Governors gathered on stage where the Commisioner read a brief statement to the gathered media:

"Members of the media. Team representatives. Fans of the BLB. It's with great dissappointment that the Brewer's League announces that due to a scheduling conflict, the 1984 BLB All-Star Game has been officially canceled. The league was contacted by the United States Government and specifically the Democratic National Committee to inform us that In-N-Out Field, the home of the California Kodiaks and the location for this year's game, would be hosting a Pre-Convention rally for Walter Mondale and Geraldine Ferarro on their way to San Francisco to accept their nomination later in the week.

We'd like to stress that the league is not happy about this decision, but we felt it was our duty as Americans.

Voting for the All-Star Game and the process for Manager's selections will continue and players will still be honored for their achievement and receive any applicable bonuses from the league and or their team.

The league was left with no other options in the this case. We apologize to the players, the teams and the fans.

Thank you for supporting the BLB."

With that, the League's Media Director took a few questions. Here were the highlights:

On the rumors that the game was canceled because of fan interest in California...

"Contrary to popular opinion, there are indeed fans in California. Granted they are 99% Hyundai fans... but they are fans nonetheless."

On whether or not Washington Bats Owner and Manager/IL All Star Coach Pat Smear would cry...

    "I wouldn't bet against it."

On whether or not the MLB would be treated this way...

"We all know that we aren't the MLB. We don't want to be. We are who we are and proud to be it. Did they ask the MLB to move their game and they said no becaue they are Communists? Maybe. I'm not sayin'... I'm just sayin'. I can't tell you it happened like that. Just..well...anyway."

Balloting for the ASG ends today with full rosters set to be announced this weekend.

Yes, this is actually true... just embelished to ease Diesel's pain. But, it's correct... no actual ASG this season because of concerns that trying to play it the same day as a full slate of games will wreak havoc with fatigue.

      Eh, it happens.

Glad we are canceling and not playing it the same day actual games are being played. Players will be honored. I like it.

Not that I have a problem not having the game, but is it possible to export the players the same way we do the WBC and play the game that way?

        Nice article BTW Clay.

              Even though this is fake...

I'd gladly take a 35,000 one game attendance revenue check.

Unless we decide to have the game in California's park next year I think that Linty should get the $$$.

Yeah, I thought that too, but thought I'd mention it just in case. It probably would be a pain considering its gonna be like 50 guys, but I'm not sure what the process involves.
