That's a bit harsh, but understandable. I think Clay's idea is cool, but hey, whatever is easiest for the commish is fine with me. But for clarification, we are required to cut minors down to 25, before tonight's sim?

That's extra manual intervention by Andrew though. My thing is.... violates.... boom AI. Andrew doesn't have to look at it or think about it. A violation is a violation. No picking and choosing. No hard feelings. You blow it... you get the "AI" click.

Unless you have injuries. You can carry 25 healthy players.

Darn, I didn't know this. I just cut all my rosters down to 25. I know one of my teams is carrying at least two injured players.

I was joking about my suggestion; your idea is best.

I don't think I am going to be able to export for tonight's sim so I will be late by one sim on this.

For clarification the rule is 25 NON INJURED players per level. If a guy becomes healthy during a sim, he is considered injured for the entire sim.

I currently don't plan on enforcing this because it would be too much work. However, if it continues to be abused there will be punishment and just because I'm not actively checking it doesn't mean others aren't.

I'm also not expecting everyone to be 100% compliant by tonights sim, so don't panic if you can't get an export in tonight.

Also, I'm not opposed to changing the number of rounds and the draft and the game lets me specify how many players to create so we have some flexibility. The recommended settings are for 5 rounds per level of minor leagues, hence the current 15 rounds. However, as long as the game is creating 15 rounds worth of players, I don't think it matters how many rounds the actual draft is. Currently we are creating 17 rounds worth of players.

Hmm, looks like I can even add more minor leaguers to my team. :)

Draft: I think switching the draft to 12-rounds, but leaving 15-rounds worth of talent is the way to go. Maybe even 10-rounds, with 15-rounds worth of talent. Remember, some teams, especially ones looking to get younger/rebuild, are often drafting more than one player per round players in a 15 round draft. A lot of trades are a veteran in exchange for a pick and a prospect. If we are firm at 25-per level, we are going to be forced to rush guys through the minors, and ruining some development, with 15 rounds. Plus, this way all those extra prospects that don't get drafted just go straight to the FA-wire, and won't be asking for major league contracts.

25-Cap: I'm ok with the idea. I have been one of the teams that has hovered at 29-30 for every level. But prior to this rule change, there was nothing wrong with that. We all had injuries at the minor league level, some more than others, so I was holding 25-28 non-injured players at most times. Now, that number has to be at 25 the whole time, and I'm cool with that. I never once (I believe) went over the 30 limit and stopped a sim because of it. Yeah, I abused the DFA in the past, but that is over with. I got a huge fine for it, had some decent talent cut because of it, and I'm done with doing that.

I also think this might be the rule that gets us closer to having a rookie league, which is an idea that I love. Not only is it realistic, but it also will be easier on the younger prospects. And, having another level to manage is more fun for those of us that are actually into it.

I signed 10 minor league free-agents, and when you are carrying 30/30, those guys you sign all go to DFA. Plus, I had two players DFA'd who I was actively shopping, no one wanted to trade for them, so I put one on waivers (he was claimed) and the other was cut. THAT IS WHAT THE DFA IS FOR. You designate a player for assignment, AKA, he is being traded or cut. In our league, when you are at the maximum for minor league levels or major league level, thats where the signed players go. For the record, I am at 25 in all three and will have an empty DFA if the waiver-claim goes through.

                        I was carrying extra guys...
I don't really understand what you are saying. If you were carrying extra guys, how is that any different than "the select few" that were doing the same? Also, how does going from 30 to 25 make it so "Andrew doesn't have to police it"? For the record, I'm all for the 25 roster limit of healthy players. Just expect more injuries.

Why don't we appoint you with this task? You are the co-commish. All you would have to do is report to Andrew which team is over the limit, Andrew could either fine that team, post/PM that team that he is over the limit, or whatever. Good idea?

diesel is correct in saying that is what DFA is for. I have no problem with teams having players on DFA while they figure out what to do with them or right after they sign them. What I do have an issue with is when people let the DFA time expire and people shuffling players back and forth between DFA and the minors, essentially using it as a 4th minor league.

From now on I'm probably just going to keep a tally of the DFA infractions and fine everybody at the end of the year. It's a pain in the ass to go in and edit people's cash down every sim.

I wish the game implemented DFA correctly. In reality, minor league players shouldn't be allowed to be placed on DFA. It should only be there for players who are being removed from the active and 40 man rosters.

I don't see any problem leaving the draft at 15 rounds though unless it creates too much work for Andrew and he wants to cut it back. If you are not interested in the last few rounds just do the auto pick option or add a few guys to your list without any research.

I think Andrew mentioned it earlier, but you can create players for as many rounds of the draft that you want while drafting for another number of rounds entirely.

For instance, we could tell the AI to create enough players for 20 rounds, but only draft 12 rounds. This would leave the leftover players in the FA pool.

What this does is creates a draft with more potential impact players due to the draft pools size. Its still proportioned the same as far as good players versus scrubs, but more good players will get drafted while more of the scrubs are left to the FA list.

you could always not take the guys you draft. I ended up just cutting 2 of the guys I drafted in the 14th and 15 rounds I think last year since I was pretty full at that position.

The problem with that is sometimes those two players you cut, now start asking for $350k per year, instead of minor league deals.
