  • Pittsburgh Millers take Raśl Rosales (C) at 2.23

Love this pick! Didn't need/want another Catcher/1B type... but would have jumped at him later. I had multiple scouts who had him as Top 25 talent.
    The Great One!

    To many rings to count...

    • Tough decision as we take CF Jerry Morton. Our head scout had him at 6-6-3-5-5. Probably will be another bum though, our other scouts were kinda wishy washy on him. Had another guy we absolutely should have taken looking back. Hopefully he is there in another 4 picks.

      • jwolf... don't be so tough on yourself, it's your first draft afterall. With that being said....

Morton was something like the 130th best player left on my board... from my top two scouts.

Two of my scouts actually liked him, with pretty good ratings. But it was my head scout of 80-80-80 that wasn't so fond of him...only reason I didn't take him to be honest.

Yeah, I'm shocked that he's still on the board. I narrowed it down to Soto and Rosales with my 1st round pick and took Soto hoping that Rosales might still be around in the 2nd. Worked perfectly for me.

Gotta admit, he was about the 4th-5th best C on my chart. All my scouts had a 4-5-5-5-5 rating for him across the board. Not surprised he was still there in the 2nd round at all from this teams POV.

                • Went with SP Willie Ritchie with our third pick. My top pitching scout, an 80, has him as a 5-5-6 guy, but the rest of my scouts think he's just average.

This is one of those picks where you have to trust your best scout and make a play. I cant imagine how bad its gonna be later in the draft.

Loved the pick too. My scouts had him at 4-5-5-5-6. I considered him early in round two, but I just didn't need a C/1B.

I'm really surprised that 2B Adrian Vega lasted until the 3rd round. He is a solid defender, with decent running skills, and my scouts were pretty high on him. My top hitting scout had him 6-6-6-6-5, my #2 had him 5-4-5-5-3, and my 3rd had him 6-5-6-6-4. The other three had him 4-4-5-5-3. Plus, for what it is worth, SISA had him pretty high as well. If I can land a 2B with a high "5" or even a "6" on power, that will be crazy.

This happens every year. You think the draft isn't as shallow as you originally thought, because everyones scouts sees different ratings. I, or at least my scouts, think there is still a bunch of talent left.

                      • Sorry for the delay guys, just got out of class. Can I get a couple extra minutes for the first pick since I'll be making two picks, anyway? I'll have them both done within the next 30 minutes...

                          • Had Elijah Best on our board. Couple of decent pitching scouts didn't like him, but oh well, he could be good.

We finally make a pick we (think we) can be proud of, CL Jerry Davidson. Averaged out to 6-4-5, brings 100 mph heat, and he's fairly developed at 5-2-2 and even 6-3-2 according to one of my bum scouts.

I have a question. One of the guys I was looking at this round is something like 18 or 19 and has a scouting report from 1979... when he was 13. It's something stupid like 8-6-4, and of course the 1984 reports are much different, but does OOTP do this to simulate the random Albert Brooks goes to the middle of nowhere scout and sees some 13 year old?

                            • For some reason, the game seems to re-use some of the player numbers (each player is assigned a unique #) without clearing out the old history. Which explains why some of the prospects have pictures showing them in minor league unis and matching history. It doesn't affect their development as far as I can tell, but it's kind of annoying.

At least I think that's what happens. I think the game cleans it up eventually, or Andrew does it.
