  • OK... (A) Defensive much?

    (B) What the hell does my assessment of your guy by a Scout who wasn't even with my team during those two picks have to do with Mar, Grounds, Yan the Man or Nago?

    (C) Are you about the cry?

      (A) All in fun.

      (B) I like taking shots at you, your team, and your poor early drafts.

      (C) I'm all dried up. Did all my crying last night when the Wings and Pistons lost.

      • ...and "for the record"... Grounds is not a great example.... He had a nice first half and made an All-Star team in a year where the 2B's in the IL were awful... but since then he has been mediocre or hurt. Not saying he won't get better... or that he's not servicable.... but you're holding on to hope with him like I do with my guys.

        • Headed off to work here in a second so I loaded my list up and put it on auto. It'll be interesting to see if my top choice goes in the next two selections... since this is my first draft, I think I'm pretty far off on figuring out these guys' values compared to you all or what they actually are.

Oh no doubt. I have actually been pretty down on Grounds about since his All-Star selection. I mean, he has been great defensively, but he wasn't a starter during the title run. I went with Dynes at SS, Taracena at 2B, and Lamberts at 3B. Grounds was a glorified cheerleader. It wasn't until this ST where he tore the cover off the ball that I have felt like he is "back on track." We shall see. He has played well below where I expected him to be at this point when I drafted him.

I just thought it was ironic how similar our picks were in those drafts (both early first round, same positions). That is all.

            • First couple drafts are tough... you'll get your groove... and, as Andrew said, when we convert to OOTP 09 it will ne new to all of us with the new scouting system.

                • See, SP Nate Taylor wasn't on my radar, but I bet he was high on Virginia's, Wilmington's and Indy's lists.

My scouts had him 4-4-4, 4-5-4, 4-5-4 (from my top three), and 5-6-5, 4-4-4, 4-5-4 (from my bottom three). I do like his endurance, groundball, and hold runners though.

No, not really. He was only on my radar because he has the same name as my brother-in-law. I was going to grab him late in the draft if he was still there, but I have him averaging out to about 4-4-4.

I'm rolling the dice on Taylor. My crap scouts for pitching aren't high on him. But my guys that I pretty much trust with my pitching life were huge on him. That plus the intangible ratings, had to take a shot. I'm ok with missing on this pick.

Yeah, drafting off of names is a money move for the later rounds.

My top pitching scout loved Taylor and he would've been a Clown if not for you meddling kids and your dog...

That being said, the Clowns are pleased to take 3B Xalbador Ansoátegui. My top hitting scouts were thrilled with him, projecting him as a 5-6-7-6-4 and 6-6-7-6-4 guy with below average third base skills. But if he can hit, we'll find a spot for him.

                            • I'm shocked at how the 2nd round has gone. The 1st round was pretty much what I expected, but the 2nd is not at all. This draft must be one of the most mediocre ones we've had.

                              • With my 3rd pick, I went with MR Cristian Ramirez. All my scouts have him at 3-6-7 potential, and he is somewhat developed at 3-3-5. He is a lefty. Good hold runner. Decent endurance and groundball. His fastball is average, but his curveball should be devastating.

This was a really tough choice. There was another guy I think is equally as good and should be off the board shortly.
