Didn't see that one coming, did you!

There were actually 3 relievers I was looking at who had great potential and are close to being BLB ready according to my scouts. I didn't think they'd last until 2.22 so pulled the trigger.

      Really?

My scouts only found 3 RP's with 5 endurance and those three were among the lowest rated guys in all of the draft class. I'll be following Frayo for sure.

Btw, he was the highest rated RP left at the time according to my scouts... so even if he stays in the pen... he'll be solid for the Guides.

      • My two best pitching scouts rated Frayo a "5" in endurance, and he rated well in the other categories. I actually considered taking him with my fourth pick in the first round. I think it's a great pick.

Perhaps one was Victor Garcia? All my scouts had him 5-7-5, so at this point in the draft I'm happy with him.

          • I went with Raul Jiminez, the last starting pitcher with 5-5-5 from my scouts. Plus, he has a 6 on endurance.

I'm pleased that he lasted this far.

            • My scouts like Frayo, and he's pretty well developed. We have him as a 4 in endurance, with one scout giving him a 3. Not sure he's going to make an easy conversion if that's the plan.

Then again, my first round pick 2 years ago, Cy Kirkpatrick has gained a point in endurance since I picked him and will now try his hand as a starter. So anything can happen I guess. I figure that's why Kirkpatrick went from out of the BA Top 100 to #11 this sim.

Yeah, my two best pitching scouts also had him at '5' with really nice ratings across the board.

I know you're going to think I'm f***in' with you because you're you... and I'm me.... my top pitching scout (for what that's worth) had this guy ranked like 161st out of the class.

Yeah it was pretty much a toss up between them. I liked Frayo because he throws harder, throws more pitches and had higher endurance. I actually didn't draft Frayo as a conversion. All my scouts have his endurance as a 4. I drafted him as somebody who can hopefully give us a ton of innings in relief like Montego Rugumas did. I may try to convert him now though.

Same scouts that picked Hsien Par Mar and Yan van den Adel? Oh, ok.

Nor mine. Its awesome how some scouts are agree on guys, even throughout the organizations and some are so far apart.

No, the same scout that I signed the next season and found me guys like Ivan Perez, Vern Branch, Marlon Todd and Stu Nelson that have had developmental increases since joining my system.

And... for the record... van den Adel was a concensus high pick. He crashed because some people crash... he wasn't a bad pick. And Hsin Par Mar is actually pretty good... in the Los Alamos system.

                            • Yeah the scouts don't really have anything to do with players having talent increases or decreases. The ones to watch are the ones whose ratings all of a sudden go down at the end of the season in which they're drafted, without getting a talent decrease notification. Those you can blame on your scout.

This whole system makes a lot more sense in OOTP 9, although scouting during the draft may be a little less interesting.

Really? Raul Sanchez didn't think highly of him?

That is fine. My top three pitching scouts all had him at 5-5-5, head and shoulders above the next highest SP. We will see how he develops.

                                Well...for the record...

In 1980, you went with 2B Hsin-pei Mar at #9, I was higher on 2B R.A. Grounds and selected him at #10. Mar is still in single-A, while Grounds has been an All-Star and is currently hitting #2 in my batting order.

In 1981, you went with CF Yan van den Adel at #4, I was higher on CF Michio Nago and selected him at #8. Van den Adel is hitting at the Mendoza Line above Single-A, and Michio Nago was on the 1983 Washington Bats title team, batting leadoff.

Granted, I think both your guys had development issues...but just saying...."for the record."
