i know there have been some lengthy discussions on the subject... but can anyone point me in the direction of the most recent coach/scout signing protocol. thanks.

There isn't a protocol. We're still using in-game. Now, that will improve drastically with OOTP 9 because they've made coach signing more like FA signing.

What about extensions? I've tried offering several and they're not working...if I remember right there's an issue with that, isn't there?

Issue offering extensions? I don't know. I've been successful at it and have never had a problem.

The problem is when you try promoting a minor league coach to the major league staff. That gets you a nasty error that boots you off the game.

My solution to that is quite simple, though.

Fire both coaches and then rehire the coach you want in the major league staff. You'll have to pay for the extra cash but coaches are pretty cheap to begin with so it shouldn't hurt your pockets much at all.

Since you can do all this in the same export, you'll be just fine and won't have to worry about someone bidding on him. I'm not sure there's a rule against this. I can't see why there would be anything foul about it either. It's your coach and you're just trying to promote him the only way the game will allow.

I tried offering extensions to several coaches/scouts for my BLB team. It came up with the screen for what they wanted and I agreed...but their extensions didn't go through.

I'll try it once more as maybe I forgot to export after I offered those extensions.

Yes. It's more like bidding on FAs... but still far from perfect.
