Pretty solid sim for the defending champs.

    The Good

Free Agent Signings: I signed three of the four free-agents I was after (the one that got away is now playing in Virginia.) I signed catcher Jerry Fortin to an incentive based contract, with a team option. Basically, it is a one-year $5,000,000 deal. My scouts all have him at 5-5-6-6-5. He had a .722 OPS for Virginia last year. I expect that number to go up. I will platoon him at catcher, play some 1B, PH a lot, and if he hits well enough, I might try and sneak him in at 3B and LF. Plus, this year we have interleague play, so he will play some catcher while my starter is DH'ing. I also signed OF Jesus Noboa for $2,000,000. He can play all OF positions at a high level, "7" on all base running, and my scouts have him at 4-5-5-4-5. He will be my #4 OF. And last, I signed 35-year-old RP Andy Boutwell, who had a 6.22 ERA last year for $750K. My scouts say he is still rated at 3-6-5, and I was desperate for a left handed RP after losing one via trade and the other in the expansion draft. The combined three players raised my fan interest I think 12-15.

The play on the field: The Bats started 2-2, then won nine straight. I know ST doesn't mean much, but I would rather be winning than losing. Plus, of my starting position players, only one is struggling. Last year it seemed like half my team was. As for pitchers, everyone has done really well except two players, and one of them is SP Romano Gonzalez, so I'm not worried. Plus...no injuries.

    The Bad

Struggling players: Top prospect, RF Michio Nago really struggled this spring. I did not plan on this, and really don't have much of an alternative option. He went 7-35 with a .508 OPS...12 strikeouts, 1 walk...If he can't get it together, I will probably have to start Noboa or make a move. My other guy who struggled hard was MR Oliver Ganesvoort. He pitched 11 innings, gave up 13 hits, and 11 walks, for a 7.15 ERA. He is old, 34 next month, and his ratings recently took a minor hit, which makes me nervous. If he can't get his act together, I should be fine, but he has been really reliable the past two seasons.

Wow, I didn't see that one coming. That's definitely going to hurt things since I have no depth.

I'm also a bit surprised Malachi Stiver accepted my offer of 7.2mm for 2 years w/ an option year. He was asking for what? 22mm a year a few months ago. As long as he can perform reasonably well, I'll take it and hopefully develop a catcher by the time he's done.

About that Gremades injury. I feel that it could have been a career-ender if not for removing that before this season.

It's that torn muscle that always does it. Sucks to lose him for 7 weeks but it's better than forever.

For sure. In fact, O'Loughlin's and Oyos' both suffered back injuries that could have been career enders as well.

BTW - I think it's hilariously funny that so many teams figured out that the FA's lowered their asking price in Spring Training but no one said a word in the forums. I think we all hoped we were the only ones that figured it out.

I got the one guy I offered, so I'm pleased.

            Funny though.

Btw... I'm assuming we need to re-adjust our rotations for the next sim if we want to have our #1 guy rested for opening day huh? That is unless my 6 man rotation threw off how our pitching staff was supposed to be set up for the season.

It was hilarious for me because they all signed on the first two days of the sim. Was funny seeing a bunch of news articles all pop up at once.

That's why you make the big managerial bucks, Linty.

                      Indeed.

I've got a good feeling about this team if they can avoid injury.

                      Keeping my fingers crossed though.

Ahhh... I remember those days. So young... so optimistic... so blinded to the fact that I owned a perrenial cellar dweller.

                        Wow... gettin' dusty in here...

Don't have any exact stats (or the game) in front of me... but....

                          THE GOOD

Wilton Harcourt came out like gangbusters. Hitting like .400, 4 or 5 bombs, 12 RBIS, 3 triples. Just crushing.

Brian Greenham is hitting close to .450 and will be hard to keep out of the lineup. He was going to share 1B and backup Hernando at C, but he may leave ST as the fulltime 1B.

Errol Blue and Martin Carlton both looked damn good. They each had one bad outing, but otherwise rock solid. 5 saves already for the "Eager Beaver".

                          THE BAD

Obviously losing Delmar Oyos, our Ace, till May hurts a lot.

Bill Johnson and Joe Reyes may be done and may struggle to even keep their bench job.

Danny Nelson had two injuries in the first half of ST

                          The YOUTH

Nate Magness has been shaky at best. However, I don't see a scenerio where he doesn't go north with the team.

Joshua Poling has been just so-so and will likely return to AAA with the signing of Tarcena

Alberto Hernando looks ready to be the everyday Catcher

Hahaha. I was thinking the same thing.
