  • "24 in '84"

I will be bringing back this series after a year off. It will be run in 6-parts, one for each division. The series is meant to highlight a person of interest from each team to watch during 1984. It might be a player, a GM or a farm-hand on the rise. I hope to get them all up before Opening Day.

    The planned order will be:

    - Lager
    - Bock
    - Ale
    - Stout
    - Pilsner
    - Porter

If you're interested in revisiting the "22 in '82"... you can check them out here:
    22 in '82 - Stout
    22 in '82 - Bock
    22 in '82 - Ale
    22 in '82 - Lager

You nailed the Joe Viret pick for Cali. He was an all-star and a 40 something VORP. Sadly he fell apart last year. Probably because you didn't speak highly of him.

Or it could be because he realized he was in California where careers go to die.

Probably one of those two reasons factored into his 2.0 VORP in '83.

You were so wrong about Varada. :)

But I think that had more to do with the shift to OOTP2008/8.

The one thing that you did get right is that the previous owner killed my farm system and I do have to find "creative" ways to remain in contention without over spending. Though, I guess I'm one of the bigger mid-market teams because my payroll is pretty high.

I wouldn't say I was wrong because I wasn't saying he was going to be great in 82... I was saying he was one to watch in terms of how he followed up that '81 season.

I reread through a few today... I think I was really close on a lot because I intentionally wrote it to not necessarily mean a player was going to be good or bad... just that this player's fortunes will likely play a role and be worth noting. Take mine for example... I chose Jim Coker for Virginia and said... he needed to start playing like his ratings say he can.... he never did... which made him easy to move.

That being said, I was wrong on a few things.

Tilbrook was one year short, but '83 was his breakout year. He should be a fixture for 5-10 more years for us. He's still very young and should only get better as he hasn't hit his full potential yet.

We're working hard behind the scenes!

I was just informed today that SGN is now the #5 item to pop up on Google when you enter "Sim Gaming".

Andrew is a bit behind the times in the console department... he doesn't know what EA is. Last I heard... he was still waiting on a bid from Namco and ColecoVision.

So...is this going to be a mid-season thing?

                              Or is it dead?
