If we make that switch... we could call one of the AAA Leagues... something Civil War related... Blue and Gray or something.... then make these teams from the North East the Union Division
UNION DIVISION
Trenton Liberty
New York Comets
Flushing Chiefs
Lynn Patriots
Portsmouth Atlantics
New Haven Bluefish
Certainly not historically accurate... but it is in the ball park and does create a nitch.
That would leave the other side of the coin as the Midwestern teams... and the West of the Rockies....
HMMMMMM... trying to think of what we could do with that.... maybe something with the Midwest Teams being Blue Collar, Industrial... and the West Coast/Western teams being...... I don't know...
Thoughts?
For reference:
WEST OF THE ROCKIES
Tucson Bulls
Boulder City Big Horns
Bakersfield Cannons
Silver City Outlaws
Gardena Card Sharks (Assuming this is Gardena, CA)
Portland Brawlers (Assuming this is Portland, OR and not Maine)
MIDWESTERN DIVISION
Chicago Lions
Detroit Union
Fort Wayne Comets
Joliet Jackhammers
Des Plaines Golden Heroes
Allentown Talons
If you're going Civil War, you could make the division names after generals. LIke Midwestern could be Grants Division, etc.
WINDY CITY PLAYBOYS
Bock Division Champions - 1978, 1979, 1980, 1982, 1986, 1990, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009
Wildcard Playoff Berths - 1984, 1988, 1993, 2010
Import League Champions - 1978, 1979, 1980, 1986, 2008, 2009
BLB Champions - 1986, 2009
Hall of Famers: 4
Pale Ale Pitcher Awards: 6
Stout Sluggers: 2
New Brews: 6
What if for the Midwest and West of the Rockies we did something like....
TERRITORIAL LEAGUE
Then split the divisions into...
James Madison Division (Midwest) and Guadalupe Hidalgo Division (West). These names would be based on the significant events that formed both areas.
James Madison, after the Lousiana purchase formed the Indiana Territory that originally contained Indiana + both Illinois and Michigan. Both were later split out to include the Illinois Territory and Michigan Territoty.
30 years later at the end of the Spanish American War, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo is what gave the US (from Mexico) the land that now includes California, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, etc.

Thoughts????
Anything but the Civil War idea. I have enough trouble refighting that one every time they hire a Southerner here at work
Allentown in the Midwest is kinda iffy...it's right outside of Philadelphia.
Yeah... I stuck them together more for the whole Blue Collar aspect. They don't really fit geographically or by the whole Indiana Territory thing.
Maybe Random is the answer. We'll just slot team in randomly... call AAA something like "Founder's League" and name the division after original owners (either still here or gone). Something like that.
