I've made some good deals. I think I've also made some good draft picks that are en route. I was blessed with a great initial team. Now I actually have to rebuild after losing so many players I couldn't afford.

    Stay tuned.

My closer, Merlin Thompson, is 34 and making $3.5 million this season and next. He has two years left on his deal.

Out of curiosity, I try to offer him an extension. My thinking is, he's pretty cheap for a closer that's been more than decent. He's been close to very good. He'll definitely ask for a lot of money so let me resign him now.

He only wants $850k for one season.

I'm shocked. It makes me wonder if he's about to hit a huge talent drop that we just haven't seen yet because the new SISA report hasn't come out.

I still agreed because it's really not much money and if he's fine then he'd be a nice bargain.
      Yeah you're screwed lol.

Happened to me and SP Lou Walkup. Guy had 10 wins in 82, got hurt, missed most of 83. But during the offseason of 82-83 I offered him an extension and he wanted a minor league deal... I knew he was dead in the water. His stats this year proved me right.

Yep. I'm expecting major dropoff from Bill Johnson and Ghainy based on what they signed for... but they have a role to play that should hurt with declining numbers.

In my opinion it is one of the most signifcant weaknesses in the game that arbitration awards and contract demands are not stat based. In the solo league I play during the off seasons here, I had a pitcher who went 20-4 and won the pitcher-of-the-year award and then got the league minimum in arbitration. Sure enough the next year he wasn't even worth that. Another time a guy had 30 + homers and around 100 RBIs and got the minimum in arbitration. After a bad season or two that particular player turned it around and had a good career though.

That's a bug in the game. Basically the game was using 100% ratings based evaluation regardless of what values you entered for AI evaluation. It's supposedly been fixed in OOTP 9 but I haven't had a chance to test it.

Well, slap me silly and call me Susan, I'll say I had no idea it was a bug. I just thought it was bad programming.

                Good stuff to know.
