Rule 5 Draft

The Rule 5 Draft will take place at 9 ET on Sunday 5/4. You can protect players by adding them to your 40 Man roster in game. Please post the players you are protecting here as well.

Please keep in mind the following Rule Changes:

Rule 5 Draft
- There will be a $50,000 charge for each pick you make in the Rule 5 draft.

Since returning players in the game doesn't work, we'll use the following procedure:
- Post the player's name that you want to return in the Rule 5 Returns thread (yet to be created)
- The commish will release the player (you will be charged for his contract) and then manually edit him onto the AAA team of the organization that he is being returned to with a minor league contract.

The purpose of this is to A) discourage GM's from picking players they have no intention of keeping, B) have a set procedure so everybody knows what to expect and C) make it so the team the player is being returned to isn't responsible for a contract that somebody else gave him.

Nope. The players drafted have to remain on your Active roster for the entire year which can make them difficult to keep. The draft lasts until every team passes.

Last year's Rule 5 picks are off restriction now. Once you get through the year, you can send them down.

So what's the most accurate way to see who's eligible, just look through rosters?

You can use the Rule 5, but you'll want to take a look at players to confirm that they are not on a 40-man/have a Major League contract. Like the in-game right now lists Tim Murcott who has been in the BLB his entire career.

I think it's only if you're adding someone who was Rule 5 eligible when this new league file came out yesterday, but you are moving him to the 40-man for this sim.
