  • Richest Contract in BLB History

I've been looking and I can't find one richer than the extension Pedro Zamarida signed in 1983.

Zamarida signed a 10 year, $142.7 million contract.

The average per/year won't touch the likes of Baltimore's tandem or the deal that Samarano signed in Dallas but I think it's the first to eclipse the $125+ million mark in total dollars.

It might even be the longest ever given.

    Anyone care to correct me?

both Dan Jones and Harry Keppel signed 10 year extensions (41 and 90 mil respectively.)

That's like $142,700 for every error he'll make during that span.

Oh, don't worry, I'm trying to groom him into a full-time DH. His fielding is horrendous.

          That's a great deal. Keppel at 10 years/90 million? That's shrewd.

even if i get only 5 years of good production, it's still worth it. of course, when he's 32 and a free agent, he's gonna leave me for underpaying him for 10 years.

If his ratings and production keeps up, he'll be getting paid by someone, lol. On the other hand, he may not ask for much to resign since he's signed for so 'little' now. That'll definetly be an interesting situation.

I wish that's how it worked. I signed Abe to a 5 year deal at like $4.75 million a year, and now he's asking for $13 million per.

It's funny how the BLB was actually ahead of the curve. You're seeing more and more teams extend young guys before their arbitration years expire or even hit. Detroit did it with Cabrera and Granderson this year... and Tampa just did it big time with Longoria.

Maybe GiGGAs was ahead of the curve when he gave Danny Nelson a big deal before his first auto-renewel.

                  To many rings to count...

$13.0 per for a pitcher of his level is a steal in this league.

I did that with Abe and EG, but I didn't know it was such a good idea at the time. In hindsight, I wish I would have given them more than 5 years...

                        I agree.

On my team I would gladly pay that amount for him. If I cant develope a top tier starter, i'm gonna be forced to overpay/trade for a stud, if one is available and hope he performs and doesnt get hurt. I think a lot of teams were ready to do that for McEvoy. I know I was.

Then they would've gotten hurt, lol.

I was definately going to throw some money around in a McEvoy sweepstakes.

It's alright though... the Nate "The Skull" Magness era in Virginia starts this year (I think).

He's gonna be a fun guy to watch develope. I wish I had a guy like that, but Gonzalez is taking his sweet ass time climbing the ladder.
