  • 1983-84 Off-Season Needs Thread

Thought it might be cool to throw up a thread for what your goals, plans, needs, hopes for this coming off-season are. Since 18 of us will be making tee-times after Sundays sim, I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking about what's next.

Virginia is really counting on some players blossoming at the turn of the year. I like a lot of my pieces, but they are far from being a whole yet.

    Biggest Need(s):
    - Consistant Starting Pitching: Oyos has been good. Ghaniy got better as the season went on. I'm not sure where the rest of my arms are going to come from. It might be hard to keep "The Skull" in AAA for long.

    - Everyday 3B: We went out and got Arce, but he didn't fit the bill. Cheatem was great as a backup, but struggled when he got the everyday job. Joshua Poling is getting close, but he'll just be keeping the spot warm for Maeda (my #1 prospect). Maeda is still only 18 and will make the jump to AA this year. Let's hope he's a fast learner.

    Hopes:
    - Expansion Draft: I hope that Batavia and Morgantown go gentle on me. The #16 guy on my list last time got snapped up (Archie Murry) and I'd really love to still have him. With a deeper system now and more players that I've grown attached to... this go round of expansion has me worried. It wouldn't hurt my feelings however, if my new division mates got picked clean.

    Most Anticipated Part of 1984:
    - Wildcard: While I certainly won't be in contention, it will be exciting to see how these races change the dynamic of the league.

    - The Return of Inter-League Play: This is easily the best part of '84 to me. I miss playing the DL. I think the last two years have been an unbalanced barometer of how good or bad the teams are.

    Early Sleepers for '84:
    Indianapolis (DL)
    Windy City (IL)

I need a stud in the rotation and a guy that can hit 30-35 bombs while not hitting under .250. A real run producer would be so strange for us...

Terry Drewitt could also have a good season. I think he may be my most dissapointing player this year.

I need a little more depth in my bench and another bullpen arm or two.

Right handed power... and a guy who can put back to back seasons together.

            Lots of pitching.

To be realigned with an expansion club, California and Virginia.

I'm actually to busy trying to make my renegade moves from this year mean something. I'll worry about next year when this years done.

I need some bats. These old geysers were good in their heyday but its time for a change.

It may sound funny, but I don't really need much. My roster's been pretty well overhauled. I just need father time to speed up a bit.

I will actually most likely have a little bit excess to trade when the time is right.

Still want another big bat. Wanted it before the deadline and didn't find what I wanted for the right price or contract.

Has to be an outfielder and I'll keep looking into it though I don't really have the money to sign anyone this offseason.
