  • SIM COMPLETE - 1983 - Regular Season 22

    Next sim: Sunday

  • #2

Great start to the week, beating Sin City 20-4. MacCabe was great in his Guides debut going 5-5 with 3 R and 3 RBI. Things quickly went downhill though. O'Moore and Corrigan lost back to back games to Dallas. In the game Corrigan lost we had more errors (4) than hits (2). We're now trailing in the division by 1 game and on top of that have lost Frank Kelly and another reliever for a week. And lost CF and leadoff man Subaru Hiraki for 2 weeks.

We need to get back on track before Pittsburgh starts to run away with this thing.

On the Major League squad, the Whalers won 5 outta 6 games, and Castro/Burchette are both heating up finally. That points to good things over the next few seasons.

In AA news, it's the same old story. The Middletown Falcons are proving to be the modern day Buffalo Bills of the sort.... making their 4th straight appearance in the playoffs, and their 4th straight year without closing the deal.

The Whalers still have a chance to make some noise... starting at the end of this next SIM, the Whalers face Pitt, Maine, and Sin City. I smell spoiler alert!

Heck yeah, Lexington took care of Middletown :)

Now we're tied 2-2 with Auburn in the AA Championship. Should be an exciting finish to the series.

Bring on the 40 man rosters!

Bringing up a bunch of guys who are on the cusp, including 3 starting pitchers. Also our top prospect, C Cliff Burgett who we're trying at 3B is gonna get a month to see how he fares against major league pitching. His expectation is to be in the majors, so here's his chance. We may have a MAJOR log jam at catcher soon so if you're in the market going into next year, we may be talking.

Tim Murcott went 8/18 (.444) with a couple of stolen bases in his first 5 games in a Colonials' uniform.

Took 2 of 3 from Davenport and played them tight in the 3rd. Outside of Los Alamos, I've played the Bock very tight this year. I just continue to get killed in the Stout.

Not too much to watch in September. Alberto Hernando is coming up and will get some time behind the dish as he is projected to take over at Catcher next season with Fortin potentially moving to 1B (if not to a different Zip Code). I wish I had some you pitching to get excited about this month, but it's just too soon to bring up "The Skull"

46th win pulls me within 5 of last year's total. I'd love to get to 55, but I'm not holding my breath.

My AAA manager must hate my guys right now. He's leading the AAA LCS 2 games to 1 but I just raided his bullpen. Called up:

RF - Joe Vargas, CF - Chris Dolby (both for OF depth with Subaru out)
MR's - John Cantrell, Jeff Killen and Cal Dankelman (needed more bullpen help with Kelly and Ewing out)
3B - Bobby Broome - I had sent him back down to make room for MacCabe but he deserves a spot in the big leagues.

Dankelman is an intriguing one for me. My scouts have always liked him, although they're a little down on him right now. He's had a very up and down minor league career. He basically has 1 average year and 1 outstanding year at each level. He'll get a chance to make the major league bullpen next season.

You didn't know there were a couple Giants fans in this league when you joined.

I've called up my 2-3-4 hitters from AAA to see what they got.

Gilbertson - Compres - LaClair and I'm hitting them 2-3-4.

Compres is only 20, but he's my best hitting prospect, and he hit .335 in 500 at bats at AAA this year.

Gilbertson is my favorite prospect, drafted in the 15th round Gilbertson started out in AA and hit .331 in 350 at bats... moved him up to AAA and he's hit .282 in 750 at bats... he's only 23, so I want to see if this long shot might actually be a long time solution in California.

LaClair was our original 1st round pick. He's hit 38 HR's in AAA and is a career .271 batter, he's got nothing left to prove so it's sink or swim time for the big man from Jackson.

Also called up four of my five starting pitchers in AAA and moved them into the rotation, only leaving D.T. Fitts as the only original member of my starting five never to be taken out of the rotation at one point or another this year.... Should be a real interesting time for California the rest of the season.

4-2 this sim, with no injuries.

With a 10 game lead I am going to go on cruise control. Switching to a six-man rotation, and calling up a bunch of AAA guys to fill depth. I will probably give a bunch of regulars more time off than usual. Oh, and I'm in the middle of the AAA playoffs and I am calling up my two best hitters...so ha!

My team is really starting to get it together. If I can stay healthy, and one of my two call-ups provides a hot bat, I will be really prepared for the playoffs. My pitching is phenominal and my hitting has really started to turn it around.

Oh, and if no one is noticing, Joe Sierra is having a career year...to follow his career year from 1982.

Also - I know Clay made a failed predicition a bit back, but I think I might finally take down Joe Aurillo. Just have that feeling...
