Just try to learn the basics.... things like...

    - 40 Man Roster vs Active Roster
    - Option Years
    - Arbitration

Those are the only places where you can really make errors in the game.

Learning the statistics and things like that will come to you. And, don't be afraid to ask. It's a competitive league... but mostly good natured. No one wants to see you screw up your team on accident.

The Rule V draft is going to take place mid to late April. I suggest that you learn the rules associated with the draft, scout all of your teams using your best scout and adjust your 40-man roster to make sure that you don't leave a guy eligible that you don't want to lose. It is easy to see who is eligible for the draft by going to the overview screen on your team transaction tab. There is a symbol that indicates Rule V draft eligibility.

You may not want to make a selection yourself but it is easy to lose a valuable player if you don't take this part of the game seriously.

Just to clarify, he means mid to late April in real life. It happens on December 1st in the game.

Also, don't RELEASE anyone if you have space on your roster until you get to know the game better. If you have the space, don't cut anyone, especially young guys.

I still think you just need to throw Tardiff every third day.

Is there a way for me to see the going rates for starting pitchers in the league?

Depends on the quality of the pitcher... years in the league... whether they've hit FA.... etc.

If you go to the BLB main page, go to Top Players, and then check out the pitchers you can get an idea. But, keep in mind... there are a young studs that haven't even hit arbitration yet that are still making $280,000... and there are overpaid duds that are making $17.5.

                        Ok next question:

Stafford has "cleared waivers" does that mean he is officially off the team and nobody else claimed him?

It means he is officially off your 40 man roster... baseball isn't like football though... if you cut him, you owe him whatever his contract says is left for every year remaining as all baseball contracts are guaranteed for the entire length of the contract.

Using Stafford as an example, if you were to release him today you'd own him 37.5 million dollars on the spot... that's half of his salary this year, and full salary for the next two years... so you need to be careful when you do things like that. Also, there is no payment plans. It's one lump sum at the time of release so plan accordingly.

Wow. No wonder Samardzjia went to baseball.

                              However you will get a warning message when you attempt to release a player, for instance;

If you try to release Stafford a message box would pop up saying; "Do you really want to release this player? This will add $37,000,000 to your player expenses."

Releasing a player inadvertently is fairly hard to do. It's the other things like Rule V and losing a FA that will get you every time.

Since all contracts are guaranteed in baseball, I assume there is no penalty for trading a player?

Also, what would you guys do with a player like Stafford? I can't demote his old, worthless ass and he costs too much to cut.
