  • SIM COMPLETE - Offseason #3

Please remember to move anybody you sign onto a roster immediately. Since we're simming more days, the DFA time runs out in 1 sim. I moved some players for Carolina and Dallas and will do so for other teams, but its hard to know what you guys want without spending too much time. Look over your transaction logs to see what I did.

If you can't make the sims, feel free to post in the FA forum to let me know where you want me to move guys.

Figures...the one time you're on time I can't get to the computer until now! :)

Thanks for making whatever moves you made for me.

Sorry I don't know if I uploaded or not. I was messing with my DFAs and rosters last night, but I'm not sure if I ever clicked export.

you didn't. Not a problem. Just be aware I had to DFA a guy to take him off the 40 man roster to get the guys you signed on. You definitely need to straighten that out this sim, if he's not the guy you would want to remove.

Things seem to be looking up in Philly. They did a good job of clearing their budget and getting rid of some high priced players. Now have added two good young hitters and still have a ton of money to spend. On paper, Harcourt's stats don't look that impressive, but when you consider he was playing in Virginia, with the largest playing field in the league, it looks alot better. He hit 19 of his 26 HR's on the road and had an OPS that was 200 points higher. He should be able to take advantage of the short RF porch at Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower field and put up some solid numbers.

He's still not worth 22mil/year. And neither is Desi Rochs at 12.5mil/year (I should know, I let him go b/c he was asking for 6mil/year). Jeez, some of these contracts are outrageous.

I offered him 12 and he laughed at me.

I tried to offer an extension and of course... he said "Fuck no, I'm all about free agency.."

It's not like his road avg was all that great (.240?). I didn't even offer him a contract. I was looking for pitching from the 2 big ones... suffice it to say, I was laughed at.

Yah but he gets on base a lot. If he raises his average, he'll have a very good OBP and hits for power. I think he'll top 30 HR easily next year. Not saying he's worth 22mil a year, but he's definitely a guy that I would have wanted.

I can't really fault teams like Philly for spending money. If he doesn't spend it, he's just going to lose it with the cash max in place. At least he spent it on young players.

I know I'm starting to wish I had throw some more cash around this offseason cause it looks like I'm gonna have more than I know what to do with.

Stu, I'm not sure how the game works, but with all these large contracts being dished out, can we expect all the top FAs to be asking for 20+ million a year next year? I imagine we'll see the same kind of fluctuations that the MLB sees in salaries but I'm only playing in this online league so this is my first offseason.

My view is that what potential and actual FAs ask for will not change as a result of some of the big contracts that have been signed this year. I believe that is determined by the salary entires in the game setup. Somehow, the amount of money in the game is much more than is necessary to fund player salaries at the levels entered in the setup process. That may change as the league progresses; I know I have a bunch of young players who are signed at or near the league minimum, which has allowed me to offer contracts that some have deemed unsound.
Two years from now that may not be the case.

I still suspect though that the amount of money in the game is somehow out of whack relative to the salaries entered in setup. If that is the case the money top players who reach free agency in the future will receive is likely to make the contracts signed this year look like bargins by comparison.

These are my opinions anyway but I'll admit I could be wrong about everythin I've witten.

As far as I know, there is no inflation or market corrections, in Larry Lucchino terms in the game. Players with the same age/ratings, should always ask for the same amount. That being said, budgets went up across the board after year 1. I'm hoping they start to flatten off and recede some like they did in my testing.

haha. now that i'm sitting on 40-50 mil that i can't really use, i'm not thinking your reasoning was that unsound. i just wish i had thought that way before the signings started. but this being my first offseason, i was surprised to see players getting 4-7 million a year more than they ask for. in my opinion, that is bad business, but then again, there appears to be an overabundance of money, so maybe I have to change my way of thinking.

i guess i didn't expect it cause do you ever see it in the major leagues? it's not like Arod told the Rangers, look I'll play for 15 million a year and the Rangers turned around and said "oh yeah! well we are gonna pay you 25! BOOYA!" usually the market/player sets the price and then teams decide whether or not they want to spend it.

i guess i'm curious as to whether or not salaries will adjust themselves to the revenues or can we expect next offseason to be the same as this one.
