  • Offseason Help

I'm sure some of you guys have been through the offseason stuff, but as for me, I never have. Looking at this, I have to say with the scouting and all it is a bit much, but maybe I am just confused (usually a safe bet).

Most free agents don't have a full set of ratings, if any at all. And the way I see it is, you'd have to scout individual people just to get an idea on how they are. This kind of makes sense, except we're doing two weeks at a time, when it would probably take 2 days of sim time to actually get a report on a person. So using all your scouts you could maybe learn about 50 people total before we're moving onto the next season. Is that wrong?

Is there another screen to see FA's and Waiver people other than the SION page that looks like the HTML page? Maybe I've been missing that all along...

I'm missing a head coach on my A team, but when I go to staff search, I don't get an option to sign a new coach.

And I'm sure I have more than this... brain hurts....

Ok I'll try to give a basic overview.

To see free agents go to BLB -> Transactions in the game.

The default ratings you see are SISA, a scouting agency that's the same for everybody. This should be a last resort as the ratings are often incomplete and inaccurate.

The most important thing to remember is the view you're looking at when looking at ratings. On any page that shows ratings, there should be a dropdown box now where you can change the view between SISA and your 5 scouts. You can also view all the scouting reports if you click on the player and then the Scouting Reports tab.

For Free Agency, the best option is to quick scout a player which gives you immediate feedback (by changing the view to the scout you quick scouted with, or viewing scouting reports on the player page). Each scout as a limited number of quick scouts per sim so use them wisely (scouts with higher hitting ratings to scout hitters, etc). Quick scouting isn't as accurate as normal scouting, but it's the best option we have now.

Part of the problem is we just turned scouts on after the season. I should've done a couple sims in between then and FA, but too late now. In a normal season you'd have the entire season to scout the "upcoming free agents list". We're all at the same disadvantage with this.

My general strategy so far has been to view the players by 1978 stats, then quick scout the ones I'm interested in with one or more scouts. It's important to change the scope to major league only to filter out minor league free agents who had good years.

One other important thing: the html reports will only contain SISA ratings so you should always try to go off your own scouts ratings rather than SISA.

Regarding hiring coaches: You can view available personnel under BLB -> Transactions -> Available Personnel tab

You can't hire them in the game, so just follow the rules in the coaches and scouts thread and post in that forum to hire them.

One problem is that when I look to see who is available, there's no managers. There's some other personnell but nobody who wants to be a manager.

I think it will add some new ones at some point during the offseason.

another thing to remember is that you don't have to only scout individuals, you can scout the entire league by going to the "scout league" button in the bottom right while you are in the transaction screen.

It takes longer, but it saves time in the end.
